Intro:

Welcome to follow live coverage from the Gilles Villeneuve circuit here at Montreal, Canada. This will be the 8th grand prix for Formula One Virtual World Championship. Weather is very nice with no threat of rain during the qualifying session.

Lap around the track:

?You reach 185mph / 297kph in seventh gear along the short pit straight, before braking hard for the left-right weave of turns one and two. Located just before the pit lane exit, turn one is taken at 85mph / 112kph in third gear, and is immediately followed by the Coin Senna. This right-hand hairpin is negotiated at 50mph / 80kph in second gear.

?You push hard on the throttle as you exit the Coin Senna for the short straight that leads to the chicane of turns three and four. You drop from 160mph / 257kph in fifth to negotiate the right-left flick at 82mph / 131kph in second. Exiting turn four, you sweep flat out through the long right-hand curve of turn five, reaching 170mph / 273kph in sixth before once again braking hard for the left-right flick of turns six and seven.

?The first left-hander is taken at 50mph / 80kph in second with your speed increasing to some 90mph / 144kph in third for the right of turn seven. Full on the throttle on the exit as you power along the Place de la Concorde, achieving speeds of up to 195mph / 318kph in seventh gear, before dropping back through the gears for the right-left sequence of turns eight and nine.

?Entering the bumpy braking zone under the bridge for turn eight, your speed decreases to 70mph / 112kph in third gear. The slightly faster turn nine follows and this can be taken at 80mph / 128kph, still in third gear. Exiting turn nine, you blast along the sweeping straight that leads to the L'Epingle hairpin. Having reached speeds of 160mph / 257kph in fifth gear, you brake hard for the 180-degrees right hander, which swings you round onto the Droit du Casino.

?Accelerating along the main straight, you reach 195mph / 318kph in seventh gear as you approach the hardest braking point on the track. You pull -3.8G as you brake sharply to negotiate the final two corners that take you back to the start-finish straight. The right-left complex of bends is negotiated at 70mph / 115kph in third gear and you have to be careful not to jump the kerbs too aggressively.?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Group 1:

(Wolner, Consiglio, Cotter, Keersmaekers, Harland)

Wolner

SCUM

Angelo Wolner will start the qualifying session, but we already know his qualifying lap time will be taken away from him due he missed the weight control check at the final free practice before qualifying. He simply said he didn't see the light and there was no marshals to show him that he should go into the scrutineering. Race organizers didn't give him or team any other penalty. If the act would have been watched to been intentional they could have ban the driver for the rest of the weekend. So Wolner will make the first time into results list, but it won't be p1.

There are some very challenging and tricky corners on this track, corners like the first chicane or actually all chicanes on this track are very tricky ones with walls right on the outside just waiting driver to make mistake. Especially the last chicane is very difficult as drivers come long time flat out and approach that corner way over 300kmh.

Now Wolner starts his flying lap, I don't know will he push to the limit as he already knows that his time will be disqualified, maybe he still wants to show to others his speed. 1st sector goes cleanly and he sets the first sector time of 29.397. Predictions for fast lap today here at Montreal suggest mid 28 to low 29 seconds to first split time point, then low 54 to high 54 seconds to 2nd split time point and low 1min14 at the end of the lap. We will see how close these predictions will be as Wolners makes it nicely though the 2nd chicane and stands hard on the brakes to the Hairpin. This track is very hard on brakes as there are some very hard braking points like the hairpin approach or last chicane. Right after the hairpin is the 2nd split time point and Wolner sets time 55.735 seconds there and is now flat out towards the final chicane. This long straight demands the power from the car or if car lacks top end BHP figures driver has to use low downforce setup to prevent overtaking maneuvers at the end of the straight. Too bad we don't have the top speed shown as it would be nice to see what kind of speed drivers are doing but I can say it's fast, 315 to 325kmh. Now through the last chicane and Wolner crosses the line in time of 1:15.811. Clean lap for him, to bad he will lose the time.

Wolner Finish Line 1

1:15.811

Consiglio

Phoenix

Joe Consiglio is 2nd of 4 new drivers on this years Canadian GP. Wolner driving in SCUM team was actually already 5th different driver behind the wheel of SCUM car this year. Joe Consiglio replaces Antonio Irisarri at the Phoenix F1 team and will be alongside Daniel Wilkinson to fight the constructors points for the team. Phoenix F1 is currently 4th place just 8 points away of joined 2nd placed by EIRE and FinOz teams. Consiglio is driving very aggressively and taking every corner very hard over the curbs where it is possible. This will be either fast lap or huge spin for him, I would say he is right on the risk-limit to loose it, but hopefully he keeps it on the track. 1st sector time is very good 28.580 and that is over 8 tenths quicker than Wolner did. Into tricky 2nd chicane and good line trough there and now into downhill towards the hairpin, hard on the brakes and small lock-up there. He goes a bit wide but at the end gets the car into corner, but that maybe cost him time, maybe tenth of a second or so. Now quickly to the gas and long back straight start as he completes the 2nd sector in time of 54.127 seconds and he has extend his lead to Wolner now over 1.6 seconds. Will he go under 1min14 on this lap? Hard over the curbs on last chicane and he keeps it away of the "champs" wall nicely and crosses the line and lap time is? 1:13.862 massive 1.9 seconds faster than Wolner and Consiglio goes already under 1:14 barrier. Very good lap from him.

Consiglio Finish Line 1

1:13.862 -1.949

Cotter

MMC Racing

Shane Cotter is also new face this year and he is driving on MMC Racing replacing Ryan McConkey for this event. Ryan should be back behind the wheel at the next GP, his home GP at the famous Indianapolis track. Consiglio set pretty impressive time just few moments ago, can Shane match that time? 1st sector goes very nicely for the MMC Racing driver and car looks to be very well balanced on the corners. Shane sets 1st sector time of 28.537 and he is in front of Joe's by 43 thousands, that's not much but now we get into fast parts of the track where MMC Racing's BMW should have small edge over Phoenix F1 and Renault engines. Through 2nd chicane and now into the hairpin without problems, remember Consiglio ran a bit wide on there and that might cost him some time. 2nd sector time for Shane is 53.993 and he goes under 54 seconds and set new sector record and now leads by 0.134 seconds. If he can keep it nice and cool over final chicane he should go to p1. And he does just that! 1:13.677 is new poleposition time and that's 0.185 seconds faster than Consiglio did. I wonder how fast lap times we will see by the end of the qualifying session when we have the top drivers from European GP on track!

Cotter Finish Line 1

1:13.677 -0.185

Keersmaekers

Woods Racing

Vincent Keersmaekers didn't participate at European GP, but he was behind the wheel of Woods Racing car at Monaco where he did qualify on 5th place but there his race ended on the first lap accident. So he was very quick between the steel barriers, what can he do here? Montreal is also street track like Melbourne is also, at Melbourne and here the barriers just aren't so close as they are at Monaco. Vincent set 1st sector time of 29.031 seconds and that's nearly half a second off Cotter's ultra fast sector time. Now into the 2nd chicane and through without any problems and hard on the brakes to the hairpin, Vincent gets the car in nicely and he completes the 2nd sector in time of 54.697 seconds and is now 7 tenths off Cotter's lap time after 2 sectors. Toyota might be down on BHP for this long straight so it will be interesting to see how much he does loose here. Over the line he goes and he goes to 3rd place, lap time is 1:14.719, that's just over 1 second slower the Cotter did and Vincent lost 3 tenths more on final sector where is only the long straight and that final chicane. Although Cotter just fly over the curbs on his lap and was very quick through that chicane also.

Keersmaekers Finish Line 3

1:14.719 +1.042

Harland

Puma F1

John Harland makes his debut as race driver here at Canada driving on Puma F1 car where he partners Angelo Wolner. Harland has been "on and off" as test driver duties during the pre-season winter testing and he was given this opportunity to drive the number 25 Puma F1 car here at Montreal. I'm sure John wants to give his best to show Puma F1 Manager and other team managers that he really got what it takes to be F1 race driver. John looks to be pushing really hard into corners and some understeering can be seen, his car might be heavy, or he might also be pushing a bit too hard into corners when he exit speed might suffer. 1st split time is 29.828 and that's 1.3 seconds off Consiglio's time and that's a lot. Now through the 2nd chicane and into hairpin? ooops some locking up the front wheel there, 2nd sector time shows he has lost another 1.3 seconds to Consiglio and now trails him by 2.6 seconds. Now it's the long back straight leading back to start finish straight and the final chicane. Over the line he goes and lap time is 1:17.467 and 3.8 seconds slower than current p1 time. I don't think that was what John was hoping for his lap. Maybe he was running on heavy car and it could work out better at the race, we will see what happens on Sunday.

Harland Finish Line 4

1:17.467 +3.790

After first group of 5 cars we saw 2 very fast laps, first by Joe Consiglio and then by Shane Cotter, I think both of them will be very high on the grid, but how high? We will find that out soon, but first we have short break? don't go away!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Group 2:

(Forausberger, Wagner, Sleight, Koski, Mihailovic)

Welcome back to follow Canadian GP live TV coverage where 2nd group is ready to start as Shane Cotter leads and Joe Consiglio follows closely. Vincent Keersmaekers is currently on 3rd place and John Harland is 4th as Angelo Wolner's lap time was disqualified.

Cristian Forausberger, Andreas Wagner, Paul Sleight, Kari Koski and Miodrag Mihailovic will be the 2nd group this time. We have 2 MMRT's, one Puma, one MMC Racing and one FinOz Racing car on track and Cristian Forausberger is bout to start his flying lap.

Forausberger

MMRT

Cristian has slightly struggled on the pace compared to his teammate Mihailovic, but what can he do now? 1st sector time is 30.030 seconds and that's already 1.5 seconds down on leader Cotter's time. He really needs to pick up the pace on 2nd sector to get descent time. 2nd sector time for him is 56.546 and he lost another second and is now 2.553 seconds down. Now into final long straight back to start/finish straight and over the curbs on final chicane to complete his Canadian GP qual run in time of 1:17.464, that's 3.8 seconds slower than leader Cotter did and Forausberger goes to 4th place with that time.

Forausberger Finish Line 4

1:17.434 +3.787

Wagner

Puma F1

Andreas Wagner made few big surprises in earlier qualifyings at Imola and Barcelona, but Monaco or European GP qualifyings didn't go so well on him and Puma F1 team. 1st sector time for Wagner is 29.136, that's quite good and he is only 6 tenths behind the leader. If he can keep up that pace this could be quite good time for him. 2nd sector time is 54.845 and he is now 0.852 seconds down and still in quite good pace. Long back straight which really puts BHP into test and final chicane tests out the setup and driver, how hard he can attack the curbs without too big risk on hitting the outside wall. Wagner goes nicely through the chicane and takes 4th place with time of 1:14.939 which is 1.262 seconds slower than p1 Cotter did.

Wagner Finish Line 4

1:14.939 +1.262

Sleight

MMC Racing

Paul Sleight is next Sleight's and whole MMC Racing's season has been big disappointment so far with Sleight down on 7th and McConkey down on 16th place on the standings and MMC Racing is only 6th on the constructors championship. With the pace they had on winter testing and Sleight taking poleposition at Melbourne the expectations were much higher for that team. Sleight already has completed the 1st sector and his time was 28.717 and he is only 0.180 seconds down on his new temporary teammate Cotter. Big lock-up into the hairpin and that will cost him some time I'm sure. 2nd sector time is 24.624 and he is now over 6 tenths down. Cotter will hold on p1 and Consiglio will keep the 2nd place, but Sleight could go to 3rd if he can keep it up on final chicane and yes? Sleight goes to 3rd, 1:14.427 and he was 0.750 seconds slower than his new teammate.

Sleight Finish Line 3

1:14.427 +0.750

Koski

FinOz Racing

Next driver is FinOz Racing driver Kari Koski. Kari had disappointing European GP where he had to retire after failure in steering system on his car. I'm sure it's not nice feeling when steering goes all funny and you are driving over 300kph at that point. At Monaco Kari was down on 10th place so I think Kari's main target is to get descent starting positions and finish the race and get some points again. 1st sector time is 28.962, that's over 4 tenths down on Cotter and now into 2nd sector. Kari complained lack of grip on 2nd sector after free practice, so it will be interesting to see have they sorted out the problems? 2nd sector time is 54.777 and Kari is now 0.784 seconds down on Cotter, that's slightly slower than Sleight just did and Sleight took 3rd place, currently on 4th place is Vincent Keersmaekers and he also was slightly faster after 2 sectors, so it's down on the final chicane, how well that goes and Kari could take 4th from Vincent or not? Over the line and Kari takes 4th, 1:14.619, he was nearly 1 second slower than Cotter, but takes 4th from Keersmaekers.

Koski Finish Line 4

1:14.619 +0.942

Mihailovic

MMRT

Miodrag Mihailovic will complete the 2nd group, his teammate Cristian Forausberger is currently on 7th place. Mihailovic has been regulary quicker on that team and Forausberger didn't have the best of the laps either as he is 3.8 seconds down on Cotter's time. 1st sector for Mihailovic is 29.416 and that's about 9 tenths off Cotter time, but 6 tenths quicker than Forausberger did. 2nd sector is 55.443 seconds and he is now 1.450 seconds down but over 1 second faster than teammate so far. MMRT drivers might be on different strategy also, you never know? Over the line and Miodrag takes 7th place, 1:15.850 that's 2.173 seconds slower than p1 time.

Mihailovic Finish Line 7

1:15.850 +2.173

So after 10 drivers Cotter leads, Consiglio is 2nd and Sleight is 3rd. Then come Koski and Keersmaekers that's top-5 with 12 drivers to go.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Group 3:

(Aparicio, Goodley, Loram, Harding, Tortella, Brown)

Next group we will have 6 cars on track, both Simsoa cars with Aparicio starting the group and Brown will be the last driver on this group. Gooldey, Loram, Harding and Tortella are the other drivers in this group.

Aparicio

Simsoa

Javier Aparicio is ready to start his lap, his best qualifying position is 12th and best race finish is 13t. 1st sector time for Aparicio is 29.198 and that's over 6 tenths down to p1. 2nd sector time 55.328 and he is now 1.3 seconds down to Cotter's pace. 55.3 is one tenth quicker than Mihailovic did and Mihailovic is currently on 7th place, 2.1 seconds down on Cotter's pole time. Over the curbs and over the line goes Aparicio and he takes 7th from Mihailovic by time of 1:15.754 which is just over 2 seconds slower than pole time of Cotter's.

Aparicio Finish Line 7

1:15.754 +2.077

Goodley

Woods Racing

Chris Goodley and 2nd of Woods Racing Toyota is next on flying lap. Team mate Vincent Keersmaekers is currently on 5th place 1.042 seconds slower than Cotter. This doesn't looks to be as fast as Vincent did, but we have to wait till the split time point to see for sure. 29.699 and he is over 1.1 seconds off Cotter time, Keersmaekers was 1.042 at the start finish line, so we can say for sure Vincent was the quicker of the Woods Racing drivers this time. 2nd sector time is 56.119 and Goodley is now 2.126 seconds down on P1 time. Forausberger and Harland were over 2.5 seconds down so this could be 9th place for Chris if he keeps it off the wall at final chicane. And he does keep it nicely under control and takes 9th place, lap time is 1:16.347 and that's over 2.6 seconds off pole time.

Goodley Finish Line 9

1:16.347 +2.670

Loram

EIRE

Ross Loram starts his flying lap, Ross has been left on the sidelines of the EIRE team as teammate Scott Whiteman is fighting with Mikko Jakonen and Steve Elencevski over the top places of the drivers championship. Loram's best qualifying position is 8th and best race finish is 5th, I'm sure he wants to better both records here at Canada. 1st sector time is 29.110, so it doesn't look like super qual position from here either as his time is over half a seconds slower than poletime holder Cotter did. 2nd sector time for Loram is 54.998 and he is 1 seconds down. Wagner who is currently on 6th place was over 1 tenth quicker, but with good final sector Loram might take that back?maybe. Over the line and Loram goes to 7th, 1:15.303 and he is 1.6 seconds slower than Cotter and gap to Wagner actually opened up more, so not so good final sector for Loram? that final chicane is a tricky one and drivers can loose so easily few tenths there.

Loram Finish Line 7

1:15.303 +1.626

Harding

SCUM

Peter Harding is next to make his qual lap. Teammate Angelo Wolner was the first car on track, but Wolner will be disqualified as he missed technical check during free practice. 1st sector time for Harding is 29.321, that's 0.784 seconds down, 2nd sector time gives better clue what position he might get into as after 2nd sector in only the long run down back to start finish straight and the final chicane. 2nd sector time is 55.581 and he is nearly 1.6 seconds off the Cotter's time. 55.6? he is over 1 tenth slower than Mihailovic and Mihailovic is currently on 9th place so this could be 10th for Harding? Over the line he goes and he takes the 10th place as predicted, 1:16.055 was his laptime which is 2.4 seconds off Cotter's lead time.

Harding Finish Line 10

1:16.055 +2.378

Tortella

JTM

Next we have first of JTM cars, driven by Juan Tortella. Tortella took the race driver seat at European GP when Matt Maple switched to Mapes-VO team. 1st sector time is 28.674 which is quite good as it's only 0.137 off Cotter's time. As Tortella is approaching the 2nd sector split time point we get information that there was some problems when Tortella was going to start his lap and he was too eager to get into track and did cross the pit exit line before the light has turned into green. 2nd sector time is 54.211 and he is now 0.218 seconds off Cotter's time and he is making really good laptime here. JTM car just flies over the curbs on final chicane and Tortella goes to 2nd place! Awesome final sector for him, lap time 1:13.739 is only 61 thousands off Cotter's time. But did he ran the red light on pit exit? We wait to see any replay or official confirmation on that? if he did he might loose that laptime, but we have to wait till we get some official information on that.

Tortella Finish Line 2

1:13.738 +0.061

Brown

Simsoa

David Brown will be the last man on the 3rd group. Team mate Javier Aparicio lost just over 2 seconds to Cotter, although Brown has been slightly quicker in that team he has some work to be done to beat Aparicio's laptime. 1st sector is slower than Aparicio did, 29.254 and he is over 7 tenths off Cotter's time and Aparicio was 56 thousands quicker. 2nd sector time 55.099 is 1.1 seconds off pole time, but over 2 tenths quicker than teammate's. Loram is currently on 8th place and he was tenth quicker after 2 sectors so this looks like 9th for Brown just in front of teammate. Over the line and Brown goes to 8th! Loram didn't have that good final sector and Brown takes Loram's place with his better final sector time. 1:15.187 is 1.5 seconds slower than Cotter did, but he beats Aparicio's time by half a seconds and he was slower on 1st sector. Good 2nd and final sectors for Brown.

Brown Finish Line 8

1:15.187 +1.510

Now it's down to final 6 drivers, who will take the pole to the Canadian GP? Shane Cotter did very good lap and holds the lead, but there are some very fast drivers left. Drivers like champ leader Jakonen and Whiteman who has been 3 times on pole. And not to forget Steve Elencevski who took pole at European GP and led most of the race and took the first ever win for FinOz. Steve will be last man today on track.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Group 4:

(Lock, Wilkinson, Maple, Jakonen, Whiteman, Elencevski)

Welcome back to follow live coverage from Montreal and we have official announcement from the pitlane that Juan Tortella did ran the red light on pit exit and his time will be disqualified and he will loose his current 2nd place and will be with Wolner on the last row on the grid. This must be big disappointment for the JTM team.

Lock

JTM

Speaking of JTM team, their 2nd driver Toby Lock is bout to start his flying lap. Lock got finally his first points of the season at European GP where he finished on 7th place. But back to the Montreal Qual as Lock completes the 1st sector and time is good, 28.731 is under 2 tenths off Cotter's time. 2nd sector time is also promising for the Brit, 54.450 is under half a second off pole time. Cotter and Consgilio is too far for Lock, but he might take 3rd place if he keeps it under control over the curbs on final chicane also? and he does, Lock goes to 3rd, 1:14.386 is just over 7 tenths off Cotter's poletime, but nevertheless good lap from Lock.

Lock Finish Line 3

1:14.386 +0.709

Wilkinson

Phoenix

Daniel Wilkinson is next on track, teammate Joe Consiglio is currently on 2nd place and team manager Andy Graydon hopes Wilkinson can pull out as good lap as Consiglio did or even faster to get both of the Phoenix cars to the front of the grid. 1st sector time for Wilkinson is 29.084, that's not so fast as he is over half a second down already after 1/3rd of a lap completed. 2nd sector time is 54.868 and he is now nearly 9 tenths from Cotter. There are many drivers on those times so we have to wait the final sector also before we see where Wilkinson will end up. Over the line goes white n' blue Phoenix car and Wilkinson takes 7th place, 1:14.853 is 1.176 seconds slower than Cotter's lap and teammate Consiglio was nearly 1 seconds quicker? was Wilkinson running on heavy car?

Wilkinson Finish Line 7

1:14.853 +1.176

Maple

Mapes-VO

4 drivers to go, first of those is Matt Maple driving on Mapes-VO team. Maple was 5th at the season opener and after than he didn't score any points until European GP where he was driving alongside Mikko Jakonen at Mapes-VO team. 1st sector time for Maple is good 28.654 and he is just over 1 tenth off Cotter's time, but can he hold on to that pace? 2nd sector show that gap is now 0.370 seconds, that's still good enough for 3rd as he is nearly one tenth quicker than his ex-teammate Toby Lock was. Oh small slide on the final chicane for Maple but he keeps it under control and crosses the line and he takes 3rd from Lock, 1:14.339 Matt lost quite much on final sector, nearly 3 tenths to Cotter.

Maple Finish Line 3

1:14.339 +0.662

Jakonen

Mapes-VO

Next on track is Mikko Jakonen who leads the championship by 20 points to Whiteman. Teammate Maple just took the 3rd place, it will be interesting to see what can Mikko do, can he challenge Cotter or Consiglio at the front row of the grid? 1st sector time is 28.842 and he is over 3 tenths off Cotter time and nearly 2 tenths slower than teammate just did. 2nd sector time shows Mikko is still behind by 0.469 and looks like Cotter and Consiglio will hold on the front row position after this lap also. Teammate Maple was 1 tenth quicker, but Matt made small mistake on final chicane and if Mikko keeps it clean he still has a chance for 3rd at this point. Over the line goes Jakonen and he takes 3rd with awesome final sector, he was 59 thousands quicker than Cotter was!

Jakonen Finish Line 3

1:14.087 +0.410

Whiteman

EIRE

2 to go, Scott Whiteman and then Steve Elencevski, will Cotter's lap time hold on till the end? Or can Whiteman or Elencevski drop the MMC Driver from the pole? 1st sector for Whiteman is promising 28.645 and he is just over tenth slower than Cotter was and faster than Maple or Jakonen who are on 2nd row at the moment. 2nd sector time for Whiteman is 54.085 he has picked up the pace as he closes the gap down to 82 thousands and it's now down to the final sector? can he beat Cotter or Consiglio? Whiteman crosses the line and he takes 2nd! 1:13.859 is 0.182 seconds slower than Cotter did but he beats Consiglio by 3 thousands of a second! It couldn't be much closer than that. So Cotter will be on front row, but will it be pole or 2nd for him? only one driver to go

Whiteman Finish Line 2

1:13.859 +0.182

Elencevski

FinOz Racing

And last but not least we get 2nd of FinOz Racing cars on track. Steve Elencevski has been twice on pole already and he scored team's first ever win 2 weeks ago at European GP after starting from poleposition. 1st sector for Steve is only 6 thousands off Cotter's time. This one will be another thriller and who says single car qualifying is boring? 2nd sector time for Steve is 54.079 and he has lost 8 hundreds to Cotter and is now 0.086 behind, it still can go either way on final sector. Maybe a bit softly over the curbs there and over the line he goes and Steve goes down to 5th place, 1:14.104 and he is over 4 tenths slower than Cotter who takes pole and Whiteman will be alongside the MMC Racing driver on the front row.

Elencevski Finish Line 5

1:14.104 +0.427

Summary

Shane Cotter made superb lap and his time stayed on top the next 19 drivers, some came quite close but at the end MMC Racing gets its car to the pole with Scott Whiteman alongside on the front row. Joe Consinglio was another who made his qual run on early on and only Whiteman was able to push Phoenix F1 driver down one place at the final moments of the qualifying. Mikko Jakonen qualified to 4th place with European GP winner Steve Elencevski who was on good pace till 2nd sector but dropped over 3 tenths and 3 places on final sector to take 5th place on the grid and 2nd of Mapes-VO cars takes the 2nd place on 3rd row as Matt Maple was 6th quickest. Juan Tortella was in very good speed and he would have been starting from 2nd place on the grid, but mistake on the pitlane was very costly this time as his time was disqualified after he ran the red light on pit exit.
