FedEx DL Racing BMW are pleased to announce that Scott Smith will remain with the team for the 2001 season and also the signing of highly rated Australian driver Jason Smith.

Scott had a competitive 2000 season and scored many points for the DL Racing team - finishing 6th in the Drivers World Championship and helping DL Racing to 5th in the Consructors World Championship. His best result was a 5th place which he achieved on more than one occasion.

Team Manager - Dan Lawrence - commented "I am very pleased to have secured Scott's services for the 2001 season. He had a very good season in 2000 and improved his positions race by race. He is one of the most competitive drivers out there in my opinion and I think it is possible he will win a race in 2001. He has the experience of the GPVWC behind him now and that will pay dividends when racing against the many new drivers".

Scott Smith commented "I'm really excited to remain at DL Racing in 2001 after a relatively sucessful rookie season. I had many offers from other teams and I am very honoured to be so sought after. DL gave me my chance last year and I owe them at least another season considering the car is looking to be very good and I can't wait to get behind the wheel and drive it to at least one victory and possibly the Constructors Championship."

Jason comes from Britten F1 after a disastrous 2000 season in which he had many highs and lows. He was looking strong and even gained a Pole Position at his home circuit before the Britten team collapsed around him leaving him with few options to continue with in 2000. He decided to leave the GPVWC after the collapse of Britten - and to return in 2001 to challenge for the championship...he does that with the DL Racing team.

Team Manager - Dan Lawrence - commented "I am extremely happy to have secured Jason's services for 2001. We had lengthy talks before agreeing to anything and have both come out of these talks feeling very confident for 2001. We aim to provide Jason with a much more stable package than he had in 2000, something which he can settle into and bring us consistent points, podiums and hopefully wins!"

Jason Smith commented "I wish to announce that I have agreed to drive for DL Racing for the 2001 Championship, the main reasons for agreeing to a deal with team owner Dan Lawrence was the wonderful package that DL Racing have achieved for the 2001 season, and the thought of having a team mate that can consistently bring home good results, something which did not happen whilst at Britten during the 2000 Season. I must admit that it was a hard decision to make, there were some extremely good offers from other teams, but I feel I have made the right decision to achieve my goals for the 2001 Championship, which of course is to seriously challenge Jason for the Drivers crown, and together with Scott, bring home the Constructors championship for DL Racing. I wish all the other teams and competitors the best for 2001, and see you on the track!"
