Joe Consiglio put his disappointing Melbourne Grand Prix behind and stormed to victory in another dramatic race, the Maltese driver preceding Mark Wicks and Mark Stanton on the podium.

Consiglio drove a clean, if uneventful, race, making sure he stayed out of trouble and bringing the car home for Nordsjoen's second win - on two races - in the season. His team mate Adam Rouse, who had been second for most of the race, saw his podium hopes disappear in a cloud of smoke just as he was closing the gap with the leader, and was eventually classified 8th.

The race started with a less chaotic first turn than in Australia: the feared set of turns at the end of the home straight only claimed one victim, in the shape of Mark Fuller, who had to slow down to avoid an opponent and was collected by Daniel Ortega, damaging the back suspension and diffusers beyond repair.

The Dutch driver, despite surviving the impact, had to retire 10 laps later with a broken suspension - and by the time, he already joined a thick group including Mal McKee, debutant Neil Peters and Juha Tanskanen.

William Ponissi, who had performed one of his trademark starts, found himself 7th after the first few turns, 7 up from his starting 14th place on the grid. However, a contact with Roberto W Conde resulted in the rear left tyre of the Italian's car being pierced, with Ponissi having to limp back to the pits with a flat tire for the second week in a row. Ponissi would re-join in last position, but a trouble-free race would see him finish in 5th and score Allen GP's first points ever. The booty for the Alton-based team could have been even bigger, hadn't it been for Chris Allen's engine blowing for the second consecutive race.

With front-runner Janne Tanskanen retiring after a most unfortunate contact with a backmarker, the front positions were set with Consiglio preceding Wicks and a surprising Mark Stanton. In fourth, Nikos Evangelidakis showed once again what a great driver he is, finishing in the points again for D.O.R., while also Gear F1 opened their account for the season with Mike Pitman's 6th place.
