Within just a few hours of being shown the door by Gear F1, Welshman Gavin Thomas ensured his involvement in the 2009 Superleague by agreeing a contract with Maximum Racing.

"This has been a long time coming" stated Maximum's Manager Mike Phillis, "we needed someone with ability, and continuity to help stable the boat. With Gavin on board now, we feel we can push the Maximum brand to higher levels and expand the fanbase."

Anthony Meier, Team Owner of Maximum Racing, commented on this glorious day in the Welsh Valleys: "I have travelled all this way, trusting my manager Mike, knowing he has put together yet another outstanding piece of business for my team. With Mike at the helm of this fantastic team, I know for sure that the decisions and steps taken are for the future of the team."

When asked to comment, Gavin Thomas added: "I am grateful to Wayne [Mullins] for giving me the chance to drive for Gear F1 and make my debut in the GPVWC. However, the opportunity to drive for Maximum was one thing that I could never have turned down."

"I believe this move will increase my chances of scoring points and challenging at the front of the field race in, race out. The set-up of this team is second to none, right from the ownership through to the mechanics."

Mike Phillis closed by expressing all his satisfaction at the deal "This has to be one of the biggest coups for Maximum, I feel this will have the potential to go down in the history books..."
