Superleague stars Liam Hatchell and Kieran Ryan showed all their class in the cadet series Supercup, as their guest appearances resulted in a win and a second place respectively in the United Arab Emirates Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. Series regular Christoph Lichtenstein finished 3rd and made the race a statement towards his ambitions for the championship.

As the top two sped away, the backmarkers got tangled in some serious battles, with Adam Smith and William Ponissi colliding heavily on the back straight. The crash spelled the end of the race for the Englishman, with Ponissi dropping 3 laps behind and seemingly doomed to last place. Championship leader Chris Williamson lost one position to Sam Millar, the Williamson driver performing well enough for a 4th place on the night.

As the laps came to the end, Kieran Ryan lowered his pace, giving Lichtenstein a tentative look at P2. The Irishman, however, kept his cool to record his first Supercup podium. Michelangelo Manrique saw off a late Ponissi comeback to clinch a season-best 8th place.

The hero of the night, however, was Liam Hatchell, whose decision to remain in the Supercup might prove a turning point for the championship from now on.
