For the ninth round of this year's Superleague the teams headed out to the desert circuit at Sakhir, Bahrain. However, the build up to the race meeting was somewhat overshadowed by dramas within the CSG team which lead to the dramatic withdraw of championship challenger Lee Morris. This shocking development has had a profound impact of the championship outlook as Janne Tanskanen has now become a clear favourite.

Once everyone moved to qualifying, it became business as usual as Tanskanen set a blistering time to add another well-deserved pole to his record. Behind him some of the midfield teams sought to take advantage of the CSG team? absence. The Woods cars of Kieran Ryan and Mark Wicks proved to be the strong once again taking 2nd and 4th respectively. The ART and Red Archer cars took the honour of best of rest here and filled out the rest of the leading grid positions.

In the opening lap of the race, the drivers largely kept things clean and the order remained largely the same, although Wicks was a little too cautious and lost a few positions and ended up behind a fast-starting Sam Millar. Just as things were settling down, Lap 3 saw Tanskanen make a rare error which made the Finn fall back into a tight midfield battle. As that battle went on Wicks, Tanskanen and Folcher gradually pulled away from Muscat and the ART cars and set up a 3-way battle for 2nd place behind Ryan.

After the final pitstops have been completed, Ryan maintained a reduced lead over Tanskanen, who had managed to pull clear off both Wicks and Folcher. However, the high temperatures coupled with the nature of circuit saw many drivers suffer brake problems in the closing stages of the race. This included the hard charging Tanskanen, who was able to keep 2nd despite a trip through the gravel traps and also Mickael Folcher who wasn't quite so fortunate and retired.

All this means that Kieran Ryan claimed an impressive first win of the season for the Woods team, with Tanskanen and Wicks completing the podium. Behind, the Synergetic team had a great finish in 4th and 5th with the Constant team also getting both cars home in the points.
