As the team headed of to Singapore for the final round of the 2010 Supercup series the leading drivers were separated by just 4pts. Christoph Lichtenstein came into the race as championship leader and was favourite to take the title. However the tricky nature of the Marina Bay circuit coupled with the close proximity of the wall meant the competition was far from over.
Qualifying saw Scotsman Sam Millar claim another impressive pole position, which only Mark Stanton getting close to his time of 1:46.354s. The 2nd row was filled by the PB Racing cars with David Jundt narrowly outqualifying Williamson. Christoph Lichtenstein started from 6th having taken it easy on the twisty track.
At the start Millar got way cleanly and was easily took 1st place into Turn 1. Behind both Jundt and Lichtenstein got a slow starts leading to a very close battle for 3rd. However things started to go wrong for Williamson as he was hit by Adam Smith under braking, but both cars managed to continue albeit with slight handling issues for Williamson. There was further contact at Turn 8, this time with Jundt and Smith tangling which led to both drivers taking a lengthy pitstop.
Early spins for both Mark and David Stanton saw them both drop away from the leading group and into the Williamson-Lichtenstein battle. Unfortunately that battle proved to be shortlived as Williamson locked his brakes at Turn 18, forcing him to take to the escape road. Connection issues saw him disconnect a few laps later, handing the driver's crown to Christoph Lichtenstein.
As the race continued many of the drivers fell victim to the track including both Stantons who ended their races in the wall. There were also collisions between Jundt and Smith on two more occasions, raising tensions between the drivers. Meanwhile at the front, late spins for both Millar and Muscat allowed to Lichtenstein to calmly drive to the flag and claim race victory aswell as the Supercup driver's title.
So therefore the first Supercup season draws to a close after many exciting races. We say congratulations to Christoph Lichtenstein and Draig Racing. Stay tuned for exciting developments regarding 2011.
