Ahead of the official start of GPVWC engine negotiations, European Williamson Dynamics have today publicly confirmed the worst kept secret in the GPVWC.

The Berlin squad will be bringing to an end its turbulent 12 month association with Japanese giant Toyota, after a season in which the engine provided to the team was the target of many in the associated media. Whilst the team have always insisted that the relationship between team and supplier has always been a strong and mutualy beneficial one, rumours have been widespred in recent weeks that the in house development of the team's much fanfared 7 speed sequential shift gearbox was essentially incompatible with the Toyota powerplants. Leaks from within the engineering department indicated that the box is optimised to work with most units limited to 18,000rpm, but that the power band of the RVX-08 unit used by the team last season was not optimal when partnered with the new running gear.

Toyota's replacement has long been the source of much speculation. WD's poor relations with Ferrari all but rule out such a partnership. WD themselves are a prolific engine supplier in their own right in other series, with the team traditionally running under their own power wherever possible, however this is not always possible and throughout the team's history their strongest association with an outside supplier has always been with Cosworth. The team's relocation from Lancaster to Berlin will take some of the sweetness out of such a deal which was a coming together of British engineering behemoths, but is unlikely to put Cosworth in much doubt as to the benfits of reassociating themselves with the team they helped bring to prominence. However, just as many speculated that this race winning partnership may be started anew, numerous reports also link WD to both Mercedes-Benz and BMW with both firms sending reps to the team's new headquarters in the Mitte district of the city in the past month.

No team as yet has been associated with as many potential supliers, and with the potential contract quite lucrative for the potential partners in question the negotiations are sure to be fierce.
