Red 5 Racing have announced their new line-up for the 2012 GPVWC. With the news that they have gained entry into the Superleague this year, the Aberdare-based team have announced that they will also carry on their involvement in the Supercup and the new Formula Challenge in 2012.

Team Principal Gavin Thomas was bullish about the prospect of the team in the top flight: "we as a team have worked hard over the last two seasons to learn as much as possible about the cars and how to set them up. If all the plans come together at Melbourne, then I do not see why we cannot challenge for at least points in 2012."

The Welshman also moved to refute some rumours that, at different time in what amounted to be a really busy pre-season time for Red 5, saw top driver Lee Morris and veteran William Ponissi linked to the team. Thomas confirmed that the rumours included a grain of truth, as the team enquired about their future plans, but also stated the future of the two drivers lies elsewhere - in particular, Morris's involvement would turn out to be an unsustainable burden in economic terms for a new team. "The truth of the matter is that we have a budget structure in place which is not going to be broken. If you look at the succesful teams in this league, they are the ones who were frugal with the resources and did not fritter them needlessly" said Thomas, who also was quick to point out this does not denote lack of ambition for the team. "I have always believed in driving to win. If you are not doing that, then what is the point in competing? We at Red 5 pride ourselves in the way we make every team member feel part of a family. We showed last season how well we can develop a car, now we will be able to start from the beginning in development terms."

The ambition of the Welsh team is represented, in Thomas's words, by the team's signing for their driving lineup. Following a 2011 campaign defined as "dramatic and impressive" by the team,
