Malta Force cause a stir with the announcement that Jordan Weekes and Patrick Gatewood to spearhead their next Supercup campaign.

The 2011 Supercup champions raised several eyebrows in the GPVWC paddock with a brand new line-up for the Supercup in the form of Jordan Weekes and Patrick Gatewood. Both drivers are new to the GPVWC community and represent a potentially huge risk for the team that finished fourth overall last season.

Despite the risk, team owner Jason Muscat is confident that the pair will deliver on the track. Speaking to reporters at an arranged press conference at the teams headquarters in Siggiewi, he said ?we're giving the opportunity to these two new rookies the chance to show their potential and we will be training them hard. Jordan has already showed great skills in the Young Driver Test last year and Patrick has showed his potential during the private testing. I am really looking forward to see what these drivers can give.?

One question that remained unanswered is the faith of their 2012 driver line-up. Team owner Muscat raced alongside fellow Maltese ace Terence Grech for the majority of the season. Grech was considered a lock for one of the seats after a successful debut campaign for the team in 2012 which saw him step on the podium twice and finish the season sixth overall. He was one of only two drivers to compete in every Supercup race in 2012.

Neither driver was featured in the announced line up, fuelling rumours that one, if not both, could be line to step up to Red Archer. Sources claim that team owner Nikos Evangelidakis is weighing up whether to re-sign David Jundt. Muscat has appeared for the Greek outfit over the past seasons and both teams enjoy a close working relationship.

Any potential step up is likely to depend on the pairs racing schedule. It is well known that both drivers compete in a national series that often conflicted with the Superleague?s Thursday race night. The availability of either is likely to alert a number of Superleague and Supercup teams who are scrambling to fill their race seats for the upcoming season.
