After a less than gracious exit from the Superleague and Supercup in relatively recent memory, European Williamson Dynamics owner, Ben Williamson has recently gone on record about the team's activities and plans for the future.
Stressing that a direct return to open wheel competition in the near future was very unlikely, Williamson suggested that the team was looking at forging partnerships with new talent with a view to possible projects in the future.
"We've been off the radar for some time and any return has to be considered realistically. Our last campaign showed quite clearly the peril of pushing forward without due preparation. We had a number of talented drivers and team members who we let down and it's important to be certain about any return to competition." Stated Williamson at a recent GPVWC paddock event.
"However, it's a fantastic series and we've always been about competing at the highest levels so the long term strategy does point that way. In the interim, I couldn't rule out offering some drivers assistance or perhaps providing a little backing to a team to get our name back out there. We've made our name previously as an engine supplier and again that's something to consider and our track record in that regard was pretty solid. We'll monitor the situation both internally and within the series and see what comes of it."
"In recent years, we shifted our focus to Touring cars, GT competition and endurance prototypes and until we can rebuild the team sufficiently, we feel our home in the short term is in the tin top area."
The British squad was founded in 2008, clocking up their first two competitive wins and a pole position in their debut season in an alternate series before joining the Superleague grid to limited success. Over four years of competitive operation the team did give some noted sim racing drivers their breakthrough drives, however their luck at retaining talent has been historically poor and an under-performing package has left the team languishing in the lower midfield on many occasions.
