The Administration unveiled plans for a fourth tier of racing, aimed at beginner drivers and free agents, among a series of changes to the successful Career Ladder.

The calendar for the 2014 GPVWC Career Ladder was unveiled on Saturday at the GPVWC Day in the presence of Administrators, drivers and managers from the league. The three Championships - Superleague, Supercup and Formula Challenge - forming the Career Ladder will see their 2014 season staged in 17 rounds - a reduction of one race from 2013 to allow the reintroduction of a summer break.

The 2014 Career Ladder calendar is as follows (Formula Challenge on Tuesdays, Supercup on Wednesdays, Superleague on Thursdays):

R1 25-27/02 Australia
R2 11-13/03 Malaysia
R3 25-27/03 Bahrain
R4 08-10/04 China
R5 22-24/04 Spain
R6 06-08/05 Monaco
R7 20-22/05 Canada
R8 03-05/06 Austria
R9 17-19/06 Great Britain
R10 01-03/07 Germany
R11 15-17/07 Hungary
R12 12-14/08 Belgium
R13 26-28/08 Italy
R14 09-11/09 USA
R15 23-25/09 Abu Dhabi
R16 07-09/10 Japan
R17 21-23/10 Brazil

There will also be some new features that will be introduced across the whole ladder and are aimed at improving the experience for drivers at all levels of ability. The winner drivers and teams from the Formula Challenge and Supercup will be automatically promoted to the tier above, in order to ensure the progression of the faster drivers towards more competitive levels: this will NOT mean automatic relegation for the last-positioned teams in the level above, but rather a re-evaluation of the grids in Superleague and Supercup to ensure commitment and quality within the Championships.

Whereas changes to the Superleague and Supercup will be announced in a later story, the GPVWC Administration unveiled some changes aimed at improving the racing experience in the 2014 Formula Challenge. The event format will be retained, but next season will see the introduction of a cap to the number of teams taking part in the Championship, with only 20 outfit being allowed. This will result in a grid of a maximum of 40 cars.

2014 will see the creation of a fourth tier of racing, the GPVWC Open Series: this competition, aimed at beginner drivers and free agents, will see a calendar of rounds with no standings and no points. It will be an occasion for non-contracted drivers to showcase their skill to managers and for more inexperienced racers to hone their skills and racecraft, preparing drivers for competition in the higher levels. Participation in the Open Series will require just registration to the GPVWC website; races will take place immediately before Formula Challenge events, with a single race of a distance comparable to those of FC and finishing by 7.45pm GMT.

Participation to the series will be limited to drivers with no contract in any Career Ladder championship, and there will be no teams - all drivers will compete in equal, GPVWC-branded machinery.

Across all series, there will be minor changes to the RFE Weather Plugin implementation, with a refinement of the current weather system to ensure an even more realistic experience to all participants.

Finally, the GPVWC Administration was pleased to announce there will be NO changes to the GPVWC Licence Fees for 2014.
