The dawn of a new season. A light breeze cascades in the spring sunshine. Welcome to the 2017 GPVWC season and the introduction of our very first entry in to Superleague.
This is big day for MadCape in our development as a sim racing team. With other ventures in full swing, it is a great pleasure for us to roll out the new car.
It has been a challenging winter testing phase. Drivers are not at a premium as they once used to be and we have had to dig deep in to our resources to deliver up the best possible solution.
Let us preface this by saying the second seat is still not fully locked in due to cost and availability. Nevertheless, it is with great pleasure that we introduce our team for the 2017 season.
Michel de Jonge - #61:
"This is a big step up for me. Moving from Formula Challenge and my first full rFactor 2 season this is a leap in to the unknown. I am delighted to stay with the team and build on what I took from year one. I realise this a whole different challenge and driving style. A switch of equipment during the winter has made the task doubly hard but I am looking forward to a fresh season. A lot to learn! My target will be points this season."
Lee Morris - #62:
"I am delighted to be returning to Superleague after a couple of years out. I had a one off race last year with Midnight but it was all very last minute and with no preparation. This is very much still a one off with a possibility of racing the full season.
We have had a good few weeks of testing to learn rFactor 2 and I feel much more comfortable in the car now. I am quietly optimistic about our chances in Round 1 and I always enjoy the challenges of Melbourne. The aim, as always with me, is to do as well as I possibly can. To be as close to the win as possible, but I would honestly be happy on my return with a solid points finish and to put a race distance under my belt on a sim that is still very much alien to me after many years of iRacing.
I would also like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to race for them and a personal thanks goes out to Nick Rowland for the help in acclimatising to rFactor 2. We have made some really good progress over the last few weeks and the feeling I have in the car is much better now."
A few words from our team owner, Xavier de Carvalho:
"Coming off the back of our success last year, we're happy to have been given the opportunity to prove our worth in the top-tier of the Career Ladder.
We're well aware of the challenges that lie ahead this season. We're under-funded, which means it will be an uphill battle to try and beat the competition after the first round.
We'll be using this year to learn and to develop. We're going to work to stay within our budgets and to focus on building the team so that we have a better chance at challenging towards the top-half of the field next year."
We are eager and excited for the 2017 campaign and look forward to seeing you all on track.
