Following the demise of MaMa Racing, many doubted that the cars would even make the race weekend, let alone do well. Defying the odds, newcomer Joe Consiglio at his first ever F1 outing, qualified a sensational 2nd on the grid.

Interviewed after the session Joe said, "Earlier in the week I have to admit Brian and myself thought that was it. My F1 career seemed to be over before it had begun. However when we arrived with Team Honda, I decided to focus on my job which is to do the best I can in the car. I am delighted with the qualifying result and am hoping for a good race. Hopefully this will attract the attention of a good team manager because we have potentially a great team here."

Joe continued, "Obviously this is great achievement for me personally but I am under no illusion about the task that faces me. I have never driven in an F1 race before and the forecast of rain is daunting. There are many factors like car setup, fuel load and tyres which will play a big part. But I think this will give me more experience and hopefully I can finish in the points."

When asked about how he felt about being amongst the BMWs, Ferraris and Mercedes, Joe replied, "I know there is a Championship being fought by the top guys but really my goal in my debut season is to learn as much as I can about Formula 1. Hopefully I will challenge next year."

A strong paddock rumour suggests that the new identity of 'Team Honda' [as we are temporarily calling it at the moment], will be revealed early this weekend.
