Tanskanen re-opens title race with South Africa win

Finn ace Janne Tanskanen re-opened the race for the title with a dominant win in an exciting South African Grand Prix which provided emotions from the green light to the chequered flag.

The start of the race saw the most minimal of contacts mutate into a multi-car crash when Richard Bayes lightly tipped Kieran Ryan's Plaform into a spin. The Irishman's car would have probably survived the spin had it not been involved into another collision, this time finding itself in the way of the damaged Fusion of Mark Fuller. The resulting crash marked the end of the race for Fuller and Ryan, with Wayne Mullins and Michael Pitman emerging with considerable damage.

Mullins had a nice fight with William Ponissi before retiring - yet another disappointment for the fast but unlucky Welsh driver, while a desperate fight for 8th place erupted between Roberto Walter Conde, Ponissi and Nikos Evangelidakis.

Up in front of the pack, Janne Tanskanen drove a virtually spotless race to narrow down the gap to Joe Consiglio to 5 points. Phil Perkins achieved his career's best with a 2nd place, followed by the ever-consistent Mark Wicks in 3rd. Chris Allen returned to points with 4th, Ryan McConkey was 5th and Jyri Lylykorpi survived a last-minute freak situation - he got stuck on a high kerb - to salvage 6th from Richard Bayes.

The last point went to William Ponissi, who managed to take advantage of Roberto Walter Conde's late spin and make up from a previous collision with Evangelidakis.

The Superleague went then into the lengthy Summer Break, with the next race to be held on the 3rd September 200
