The 2011 Mexican Grand Prix for the Superleague - the thirteenth race of the season - took place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico on the 28th of July.

Report

Red Archer drivers Jason Muscat and David Jundt put the Constructors' Championships in an iron fist with a commanding performance at the Mexican Grand Prix, scoring the first 1-2 for any team in the 2011 season and demonstrating a crushing superiority brought by the Greek team's package and Renault engine. The race also represented a turning point in the Championship as Lee Morris managed to recover some of his lead on rival Joe Consiglio, who could only muster 5th.

Qualifying

The Red Archer duo seemed able to set the pace at will during qualifying, and even a heroic performance by Morris in his underpowered Draig - suffering on the Mexican track's massive straights - couldn't prevent Muscat to claim a fine pole position in a time of 1:07.725. Morris was just ahead of the sister Red Archer of Jundt, less than a tenth of second separating the rivals. But the big surprise was Joe Consiglio's blunder, which relegated him at the back of the grid. The Maltese ace came back to the pits during Q1, breaking the rules and incurring in a penalty. With his work cut out, it was all about damage limitation for the Nordsjoen driver. The Italian team's blushes were spared by Pavel Loknovski, who qualified 4th.

Race

As the lights went from red to green, Lee Morris could not answer the Red Archer's blistering pace; as Muscat and Jundt sped away, the English driver found himself fighting with an excellent Nick Rowland and Loknovski before his three-stop strategy paid dividends. Having secured third, the Draig Racing driver couldn't close enough the gap to Jundt to try and clinch any better position. Behind him, Consiglio could only pass his team-mate, but Rowland proved too hard an hurdle for the Maltese champion, despite a last-ditch attempt at Peraltada and a race to the line.

Ojay Clark and Dave Carr-Smith scored some decent points for Williamson and Midnight, while Phil Perkins had a scare when, serving a drive-through penalty on the last lap, he saw one lap docked from his race tally. The position was later reinstated, giving the TDR driver a well-deserved 9th place (but last-lap penalty serving was subsequently banned); David Stanton finished 10th and brought one extremely precious point to ST Racing - lifting them equal to Nijo Racing at the bottom end of the Constructors' Championship.

Despite the 1-2 by Red Archer, the Drivers' Championship looks increasingly a battle between Lee Morris and Joe Consiglio, the leading duo separated by 36 points. In the Constructors' Championship, instead, the Greek team opened a 14-point gap over Draig, with Nordsjoen slipping behind and seemingly out of contention.
