The 2011 Supercup Canadian Grand Prix was the 14th race of the season and was won by Bart De Vos.

Report

After a crazy race in Mexico which saw only David Jundt finish in the points from the championship contenders, and Ryan Walker take home his first GPVWC Supercup win, the return of still championship leader Bart De Vos after being absent from the previous race was sure to heighten the importance factor as the team's moved north for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The newest team in the field, Hawkeye Racing made their GPVWC return in Canada, fielding cars for Viesturs Priede and Tommi Koivunen (who returned to the GPVWC after a small hiatus). It would also be the debut for Racing Team Schroten, with brother's Roy and Mike Schroten proudly racing for their self created team. Canada also saw the return to the Supercup of regular Superleague front runner Sam Millar, temporarily filling in one of the vacant seats at CP Lotus.

Qualifying

With the usual suspects like De Vos, Lewis Redshaw and Pavel Loknovski expected to dominate, it was a surprise name at the top of the official free practice standings, with Nordsjoen Racing driver Ben Warren showing some promising pace finishing the session fastest, ahead of the two Malta Force cars. However, it was the usual story when it came to qualifying, and Bart De Vos took pole position, 2 tenths of a second ahead of teammate Redshaw. Gregg Lawson took 3rd on the grid for Woods Racing, just ahead of Loknovski. The Nordsjoen pairing of Ryan Walker and Ben Warren lined up 5th and 6th respectively, ahead of Tom Parker, Sam Millar, Phil Perkins and Ric Scott who rounded out the top 10. It was a disastrous session for Nijo Racing's David Jundt, who had by far his worst qualifying performance of the season down in 13th place. It was a tough session for the two new teams in the field as well, with problems for Viesturs Priede meaning he'd have to start from the back of the grid, whilst his teammate Koivunen could only manage 18th position. Roy and Mike Schroten lined up 17th and 19th respectively.

Race

There was controversy at the beginning of the race after a coming together between Lawson and Walker, which saw the latter retire from the race instantly, and Lawson have to pit for repairs before retiring from the race on Lap 26. At the front, it was the usual suspects battling for the lead, until Lap 2, when Lewis Redshaw unexpectedly retired from the race, leaving his teammate De Vos in the lead, with Pavel Loknovski giving chase in 2nd. A great start from Sam Millar saw him settling into a comfortable 3rd position, ahead of Tom Parker in 4th, Ben Warren 5th, with a sizeable gap to Ric Scott in 6th. Lap 12, and Gavin Thomas was the third retirement of the race, after a promising start to the race, the experienced Welshman was caught up in an incident with Ojay Clark.

With brake wear becoming an issue for some drivers, the top half of the field held relative station, and drivers including Parker and Warren took it easy in the final stint of the race to make sure they got their cars home to the end. Draig Racing driver Ric Scott took advantage of this and started to close in on 5th place Warren. With the pairing separated by just 0.7 tenths with just a few laps to go, Scott pushed just that little bit too hard, and span on the exit of the Turn 8, Turn 9 chicane, and blew his chance to get a top 5 position. With the field fairly spread out, it was a comfortable win in the end for De Vos, able to extend his championship lead, finishing 21 seconds ahead of Loknovski in 2nd, a further 34 seconds ahead of Millar in 3rd, who was understandably pleased with a podium on his return, and driving with such short notice. Parker and Warren rounded out the top 5, Warren pleased to get another good finish in the Supercup, but disappointed he couldn't show the same pace he showed in practice. Despite the spin, Ric Scott took home 6th place, ahead of Ojay Clark in 7th, Georgios Davakos 8th, Roy Schroten 9th and able to score debut points for his team, and Chris Williamson rounding out the top 10 for Nijo Racing.
