Edonis victorious in Round 8 of the WTF1 Superleague

Eros Masciulli dominated in difficult conditions as he took victory in a rain soaked WTF1 Canadian Grand Prix.

The Italian crossed the line nine seconds ahead of Daniel Brewer to give Edonis their first wins of the season.

Brewer finished second on his Edge Esports debut, with Dennis Jordan completing the podium in the Evolution.

The race also saw drama for the top two in the Drivers Championship, as Alex Siebel and Jannick Bock both suffered from incidents that took away their chances of a victory.

Dino Paolini started from pole for Measuric, but it was Masciulli who took advantage of a clean getaway to take the lead at Turn 1. By the end of Lap 1, Brewer, Siebel and Bock had all moved past the polesitter.

Turkish Grand Prix winner Fabio Sixta had lost places at the start, but a mistake from Scuderia Basilea?s Laurent Keersmaekers allowed the Austrian to move back up into eighth.

By Lap 13, Jordan had managed to get close enough to Paolini to make a move, and he did just that to take fifth at the final chicane. His teammate however was finding just how tricky conditions were - Bock sliding wide at Turn 3.

The track was drying out and on Lap 21 Streetfighter and Florian Geier were the first to risk the green-walled intermediate tyre. His fastest lap a short time later was enough to trigger the leaders into pit stops.

As Siebel made a move past Brewer into second, Bock and Stephane Rouault followed in Geier?s footsteps. Being the first of the front runners to pit would promote both drivers further into the top 10.

Then the first moment of drama. Bock had closed up to Championship leader Siebel, but a spin at the hairpin meant valuable seconds lost for the championship protagonist.

Siebel is not one to be outdone, so on lap 36 he too had a spin. This time at the fast, narrow Turn 3. He made small contact with the wall on the front of the car but could count his lucky stars that no serious damage was done. He had, however, dropped down to eighth position.

Back up front, Masciulli - without Siebel breathing down his neck - was lengthening the gap back to Bock and Brewer. On Lap 54 Bock made his second scheduled pit stop. The German failed to get the car slowed in time and would take a drive through penalty for his mistake.

That penalty put him in a battle with Siebel once more. The reigning champion initially had the upper hand, before the Evolution went ahead at the final chicane.

And he wasn?t stopped there. Bock caught Geoffrey Fournier on the final lap and made his move at the death to pick up more crucial points.

But the day belonged to Eros Masciulli who took the chequered flag on Lap 70 to round off a great Thursday night. Brewer took a well deserved second with Jordan once again showing his consistency with another podium.
Sixta put in a solid drive to take another fourth, whilst Bock?s final lap pass gave him a fifth after his issues. Fournier made up eight positions to bag a brilliant sixth ahead of Siebel and his new teammate Rouault, who came home eighth in his ACR debut. Keersmaekers drove a great race for Basilea whilst Paolini rounded out the top 10.

Sergi Heras, David Fidock, Rait Kilk, Maciej Mlynek and Alex Cooper took the final five points positions, with Matthias Muuss and Mike Bell as the only other finishers.

In the Drivers standings, Alex Siebel?s gap to Jannick Bock is cut to two points with Dennis Jordan remaining in third. Eros Masciulli jumps to fifth courtesy of his victory, just behind Fabio Sixta.

Evolution Motorsports increase their lead to 70 points over ACR, with Red Archer in third. Edonis? victory takes them within a point of fourth placed Epic Racing.
