The 2000 Italian Grand Prix was the very first GPVWC race and took place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza circuit in Monza, Italy. The race was won by Thomas Kimmich who also recorded the league's first ever hattrick.
Classification
Qualifying
Dickson and Kimmich were light years ahead of the competition, with the gap to third place an incredible 1.3 seconds back. Technically, both Dave Harland and Peter Kent were outside 107% (1:27.863). This rule wasn't enforced, however.

Race
Dutch driver Gijs Herpers of Goffen Racing was disqualified after unwittingly submitting an illegal game file. Herpers had been having technical difficulties and decided to save every lap and then edited the saved file, for no explicitly expressed reason, with the program GP3 Commander. There was no indication of any attempt at cheating. However, Herpers held his hands up and apologised for not complying with the league rules. He accepted his disqualification gracefully.
Thomas Kimmich became the first winner of a hat-trick in the inaugural GPVWC event, taking pole, fastest lap of the race and the race victory at Monza.
While Jason Smith couldn't quite hook it up in qualifying, he proved that he was a potential challenger to Kimmich's championship bid.
Silver Angels and A-Racing looked to be the constructors to watch in the coming races.
