The 2011 Supercup French Grand Prix was the 7th race of the 2011 Supercup season and was won by Simon Cattell.
Report
Simon Cattell led a PB Racing 1-2 as he triumphed in an unusually high-attrition French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours. The English driver led home Jason Muscat and an excellent Georgios Davakos to claim the first victory in his Supercup career and close the important gap with the top of the rankings.
Qualifying was surprisingly led by David Jundt, who caused an upset as he out-staged Bart De Vos to snatch pole. The joy for the Swiss driver, however, was short lived as a freak accident on the grid left him in need of repairs and led to a pit lane start. A clean get off the line led to Lewis Redshaw, Simon Cattell, Bart De Vos and Pavel Loknovski leading the pack - but a massive contact between the Belgian Championship leader and Loknovski forced the former to retire and the latter to make a lengthy pit stop. A few laps later, a spin put Redshaw in the wall, compromising the Nordsjoen Racing driver's hopes to join De Vos on top of the Championship.
This released Simon Cattell at the front of the field and the English driver never looked back, setting an impressive gap over team mate Jason Muscat and maintained his lead throughout the race - not even losing P1 for his one and only pit-stop.
Behind him, a relatively uneventful race - a rare sight in the Supercup - still saw many retirements as the tricky circuit claimed Leontin Nemet, Sam Millar and Gregg Lawson among others. Georgios Davakos drove a clean race to finish third, bringing much needed points to Water Blue Racing, while Synergetic Motorsports and Nijo Racing both had double point-finishes.
