Gavin Thomas is a Welsh sim-racing driver who has taken part in the Superleague and Supercup and Masters championships. He was banned from the GPVWC in July 2012 for abusing members of the league.
Gavin made his début in the GPVWC at Bahrain in 2009 driving for Gear F1 alongside serial nemesis Wayne Mullins. Later that season he moved to Maximum Racing and in his first race beat his former team mate in qualifying. 2010 saw Thomas co-found Red 5 Racing with Mullins, only for the pair to have a dispute about the ability of the car. Mullins moved to arch nemesis Draig Racing, while Thomas found a drive with the competitive Synergetic scoring his first point in Japan. Later in the season however, he found the Cosworth power-plant too unreliable and moved to Oz Racing scoring his best ever result in Turkey of 8th place, again beating his nemesis Mullins as a bonus. In 2011, Thomas signed for the Computrac Motorsports team headed by Marco Vandenbroeck. He took over control of the Belgian outfit and has transformed the teams fortunes, with other welshman Ben Morgan scoring twice this season the pressure has been on Thomas to substantiate his role as driver, he has answered some critics with a showing of 10th in the Canadian GP after adding major upgrades to the car. He is currently aiming to join Computrac Motorsports with his own team Red 5 Racing. In 2012 Computrac Motorsports will become Red 5 Racing, with major sponsorship from Red 5 Designs.(A welsh based graphics company run by long time friend Wayne Mullins).
Supercup
Gavin Thomas fully took over management of Red 5 Racing in 2010 turning them into a force in the Supercup competition, despite Draig Racing poaching Christoph Lichtenstein. They are back on the grid in 2011 in Supercup, Thomas gaining a respectable 4th in Melbourne along with a 10th in Japan. He took a sabbatical for five Races, but made a dramatic return in the British Supercup race taking 7th after being hit on the warm up lap and starting in the pitlane. Thomas' fortunes since have waned, however he is still comitted as ever to the Supercup campaign and will renew his vigour in Brazil.
He aims to make Red 5 Racing into a succesful Supercup and Superleague force.
