Report
This year's Masters competitors returned to England for Rounds 8 & 9 at the narrow and twisty Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire. This was the last race before the Christmas break so many drivers were keen to score a good result here. In qualifying it proved to be a Joe Consiglio masterclass as the championship leader swept to pole over a second faster than his nearest rival. Sam Millar collected 2nd, with David Jundt and Ryan McConkey making up the second row.
Apart from a spin from Mark Fuller on the formation lap and a small collision between Gavin Thomas, Luke McKee and Adam Smith, the opening lap was fairly clean. Consiglio managed to pull ahead of Millar at the start with David Jundt and Jason Muscat not far behind in 3rd and 4th respectively. However, not far into the race Jundt and Millar both lost time with excursions off track. This led to a very close midfield battle with David and Mark Stanton, although both Jundt and Millar eventually got past the Constant duo. Ryan McConkey had a fairly quiet race and held onto third place at the line, but it was the Nordsjoen drivers who stole the limelight as they claimed a 1-2 with Consiglio adding another impressive win to his tally.
The narrow grid proved tricky for the fast drivers starting from the back in the sprint race, as many found it hard to make progress off the line. GPVWC Newcomer Ojay Clark held his nerve at the start and took the lead ahead of Chris Williamson and Adam Smith through the first few corners. Unfortunately, Smith's race would end prematurely along with fellow Englishman David Stanton, as they both beached their cars on the first lap. A collision between Mal McKee and Gavin Thomas gave many people a scare in the Esses, but no major harm was done. Having made his way up to 4th, Joe Consiglio soon passed Luke McKee and set his sights on the leading pair a few seconds up the road. However his job was made easier as Clark span on Lap 2 and Williamson followed suit a lap later. After that things settled down for a while, with the notable exception of Mark Stanton and Ryan McConkey, who banged doors several times before the American emerged ahead. In the end Consiglio cruised to his first sprint race win, ahead of Millar and Muscat.
