The American GT Cup is an event that was first held during the 2012 Winter GT Series season at Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach. One of only two events to make the jump from the Winter GT Series, for the 2013 World GT Series season the race was be held at Watkins Glen International, Watkins Glen. Despite the change in track however, the American GT Cup had retained its status as the Series' season closer. Before the 2013 race, a 'Lap of Remembrance' was held to pay tribute to the Porsche Supercup driver, Sean Edwards, and ex-Marussia F1 test driver, Maria de Villota; both of whom had passed away in the week preceding the event. For the 2015 season, the event returned, featuring another change of venue; this time to the Circuit of the Americas, Austin. As the World GT series is revived on the rFactor 2 platform, the American GT Cup retains its position as the season finale.
