Race
Notes
- Fastest Lap: Juan Pablo Montoya 1m 16.079s
- Soccer legend Pelé was supposed to wave the checkered flag. However, when the Schumacher brothers arrived to the finish line, Pelé was talking to someone, and forgot to show them the flag. He eventually waved the flag when the next driver, Takuma Sato arrived to the finish line, two laps down, meaning by technicality that Sato had won the Grand Prix as he was the first driver to see the checkered flag
- During the morning warmup, Bernoldi's Arrows crashed in Turn 2, right by the Medical Car. It went out to help him, and just as the car's driver, Alex Ribeiro, opened the door, Heidfeld's Sauber came in, and crashed into the door. Thankfully, both Heidfeld and Ribeiro were all right, especially Ribeiro, who might've been killed if he had been stepping out.
- Michael Schumacher gave the Ferrari F2002 its debut in this race. Only one F2002 had been brought to Brazil, leaving Rubens Barrichello to race in the F2001.
