Mayor Downard Racing Team (formerly MDR Motorsports prior to 2018) was setup at the back end of 2016 by Co-Founders Jack Mayor and Josh Downard. In December 2018, Mayor Downard Racing Team announced the creation of the MDR Academy. The Academy served as an agency to allow drivers of all skill-levels find a racing opportunity that suits their skills and requirements. After 2 years of service, the MDR Group publicly disbanded the Academy for internal complications, stating that the academy "no longer has the time or people to run it at an acceptable standard, so it would be unnecessary to continue operating it as it can no longer benefit anybody", leading to the projects disbanded in 2020.

2020 saw MDR take a massive step up in competitiveness with the signing of new talent in Lewis Bickers partnering team owner and 2019 Superleague Lights driver Jack Mayor.
 +
Early season results saw MDR fighting within the top 4 of the championship standings, however after Lewis had to step down from racing duties due to personal commitments, the team brought in their own reserve driver and Supercup championship contender Frank Hamming to fill in until the mid-season break.
 +

 +
Between the German and Belgian, the team announced that Tobias Polotzek will be taking up driving duties for the remainder of the season. This partnership got off to a rough start with Tobias overall struggling with coming to terms with the car's handling. This partially lead to the team's dip in results in the final half of the season as apart from a respectful round in Monza and Singapore for Mayor, the season end saw a spree of incidents, errors and outright bad luck.
 +

 +
Despite a poor end to the season, and unfortunately dropping to 5th in the teams championship, the team was nevertheless promoted to Superleague for the 2021 Superleague season based on the teams proven ability and knowledge of development and overall commitment to the championship all year round.

 +
On the 24th of November, MDR Motorsports announced that they had retained Polish driver Konrad Bar for the 2018 Formula Challenge season in a reserve role.
 +
On the 30th of November, MDR Motorsports announced that British driver Matthew Clipp and Dutchman Wesley Stefano would be filling the primary full-time seats in the Career Ladder team for 2018.
 +
The team also announced their surprise plans to re-brand their outfit, which includes the renaming of the team to "Mayor Downard Racing Team (MDR)" as well as team colours changing from the original Red, Black and White, to a more striking Orange, White and Blue. However, just under a week before the first round in Melbourne, MDR had announced that Konrad Bar would be leaving the team due to commitments outside simracing.
 +
The team later announced that his replacement would be Daniel Brewer. On the 25th of February, it was confirmed that Daniel Benefield would also be joining the team as the secondary reserve driver.
 +

 +
Round One - Australian Grand Prix
 +

 +
The first round at Australia was one of mixed fortunes, with race 1 seeing both drivers finish higher than their qualifying positions, more importantly in the points. However the luck would change for race 2, as Clipp and Stefano started 2nd and 14th respectively. Stefano was hit off of the track at turn 2 which destroyed his rear suspension, whilst Clipp was forced off the circuit at turn 1, and would later be the victim of an unfortunate bug, which saw his Matthew's car merge with the driver behind's, launching him into the sky and out of the race, resulting in both cars out before the end of the first sector. It was announced shortly after the race that Daniel Brewer had signed a full-time drive in the Supercup series, meaning his very short time as reserve role would come to an end.
 +

 +
Round Two - Chinese Grand Prix
 +

 +
Round two at Shanghai Internation Circuit also was of mixed fortunes, with Stefano suffering from severe lag in race 1 which caused him to appear off pace, and deciding to attempt race two for the same reasons. However, It was a better showing for Matthew Clipp, finishing in 5th place, 6 positions above his grid start. Clipp brought home another points place in race two after overtaking Tom Davison around the outside of turn 1 in an outstanding manouver on the final lap, seeing him finish in 11th place.
 +

 +
Round Three - Azerbaijan Grand Prix
 +

 +
The third round saw better permormance from both drivers. The series took to the streets of Baku for the first time in GPVWC history for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. An impressive lap saw Stefano qualify 4th place for race 1, whilst Clipp was forced to start from last place after an unfortunate and controversial penalty after round 2. After avoiding the lap 1 chaos, Stefano managed to place 2nd place after lap 1 before losing the position later in the race, however a last lap push saw Wesley close in and pass 2nd place Chris Butcher on the line, beating him by just 0.01 of a second. Clipp also demonstrated his experience, avoiding all accidents on his way to 13th place, 17 places above his starting position. Race 2 saw both drivers finish in the points again with Clipp and Stefano finishing 11th and 13th respectively.
 +

 +
Round Four - Spanish Grand Prix
 +

Round four again showed quick pace from both drivers with Stefano qualifying in 4th place on the grid in wet conditions. Clipp however struggled with the Qualifying conditions however managed to fight his way through the field in race 1 and into the points by the mid-way stage. However, as the track appeared to be drying out, many drivers believed it was time to change over to the dry tyre compound, but these drivers were discovering immidietly there is simply too much standing water. This lead to a major shake-up in the running order, as well as both drivers opting for the same tyre change choice, and eventually retiring due to incidents on the dry tyres. Stefano was unable to attend the second race, however Clipp once again showed solid form by making up 13 positions from his grid spot to finish in 9th place, and most importantly scores some more important points for the drivers and teams championship. This round saw Clipp and Stefano position 9th and 15th respectively whilst MDR were sitting in 7th place overall in the team championship.

Round Five - Monaco Grand Prix

Round five was by far the worst result of the season, with both drivers qualifying outside the top 20, the round already looked set to be a dismall one. Race 1 saw Clipp hit from behind at the end of the first lap, causing him to retire immedietly. Stefano however was making good progress from 22nd place on the grid. Just 1 place outside the points, the dutchman was sitting in 16th place, however after running side-by-side with another driver through 5 corners, he was hit into the wall, and retired a lap later at turn 1 with the rear suspension undrivable. Race 2 saw Stefano unable to attend the grid again, leaving Clipp the sole remaining MDR car starting in 27th place. However, reminiscent of race 1, Clipp was again hit from behind, and later retired on lap 7. This disasterous round saw Matthew Clipp and Wesley Stefano drop to 13th and 21st respectively, and MDR slipping down to 8th in the teams championship after score 0 points.

About the team

Mayor Downard Racing Team (formerly MDR Motorsports prior to 2018) was setup at the back end of 2016 by Co-Founders Jack Mayor and Josh Downard. The teams original plans were only to compete in the Fs3 Series at Simleague.de, however they have since stretched the team to other leagues such as WCS League and GPVWC.

2021: Something to prove

2020: Fighting at the front

2020 saw MDR take a massive step up in competitiveness with the signing of new talent in Lewis Bickers partnering team owner and 2019 Superleague Lights driver Jack Mayor. Early season results saw MDR fighting within the top 4 of the championship standings, however after Lewis had to step down from racing duties due to personal commitments, the team brought in their own reserve driver and Supercup championship contender Frank Hamming to fill in until the mid-season break.

Despite a poor end to the season, and unfortunately dropping to 5th in the teams championship, the team was nevertheless promoted to Superleague for the 2021 Superleague season based on the teams proven ability and knowledge of development and overall commitment to the championship all year round.

Formula Challenge

Mayor Downard Racing Team's 2018 Formula Challenge Entry

On the 24th of November, MDR Motorsports announced that they had retained Polish driver Konrad Bar for the 2018 Formula Challenge season in a reserve role. On the 30th of November, MDR Motorsports announced that British driver Matthew Clipp and Dutchman Wesley Stefano would be filling the primary full-time seats in the Career Ladder team for 2018. The team later announced that his replacement would be Daniel Brewer. On the 25th of February, it was confirmed that Daniel Benefield would also be joining the team as the secondary reserve driver.

Round One - Australian Grand Prix

Round Two - Chinese Grand Prix

Round two at Shanghai Internation Circuit also was of mixed fortunes, with Stefano suffering from severe lag in race 1 which caused him to appear off pace, and deciding to attempt race two for the same reasons. However, It was a better showing for Matthew Clipp, finishing in 5th place, 6 positions above his grid start. Clipp brought home another points place in race two after overtaking Tom Davison around the outside of turn 1 in an outstanding manouver on the final lap, seeing him finish in 11th place.

Round Three - Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Round Four - Spanish Grand Prix

MDR Motorsports made an unusually late entry into the 2017 Formula Challenge campaign. After their original attempt to enter at the start of the season failed, it seemed their chances of a GPVWC Career Ladder debut in 2017 were gone. However, after an orignal team entry failed to enter either of the first two rounds of the championship, MDR Motorsports were given the opportunity to make their debut for round 3, and will continue till the end of the championship. Within days of the news that they will be on the grid for the Chinese Grand Prix, they had already signed two primary drivers to begin their 2017 GPVWC campaign with. The driver line-up consisted of Simracing veteran and 2014 Chinese Grand Prix winner Philipp König, and 2017 Formula Challenge rookie Konrad Bar. MDR Motorsports hope to make a strong impact on their debuting season, and its team owners are confident that their driver line-up is capable of reaching it's goals and aspirations. On the 10th of May, MDR Motorsports signed Tuomas Koriala as full time reserve driver for what was planned to be until the end of the year, However, in late June 2017, Tuomas announced he would be stepping down from the position after July. Late July, MDR announced that Koriala's Successor was to be Ryan Nash. On the 24th of Novemeber, MDR announced they had retained Konrad Bar for the 2018 championship in the reserve role.
