The 2016 Atlantic Series will be the second running of the GPVWC Atlantic Series. Lars Brugman would have entered the season as reigning Drivers' champion and his 2015 team Team Proline as the reigning Teams' champions, but neither chose to defend their titles.

Team changes
- Initially, only 2 of the teams that competed in the 2015 season, Draig Racing and YTF1, chose to continue into the 2016 season. However, SimTech Motorsport and Hinss Motorsport would also join them as they signed up to the series after the initial deadline, the latter expanding to a 2-car entry in the process.
- Eleven teams entered the Atlantic Series for the first time: Cosmo Autosport, Duck Tape Racing, Evolution Motorsports, Holland Racing Team, Kernow Sport, MadCape Racing Team, Measuric Racing, Musto Racing, Thunder Motorsports, Feeder Sport Poland Junior and Rookie Racing - DTR, Musto, Thunder, Feeder Sport and Rookie making their GPVWC debuts.

- 1 Despite taking pole position for the Grand Prix of the Carolinas, a back-of-the-grid penalty for Jordan Weekes meant that it was Michele D'Alessandro who started from the first grid slot for the second race in a row.
