Torrent Motorsports report on their pre-season preparations leading into the Australian Grand Prix.
The start of February saw all the GPVWC Superleague teams moving around various circuits in Europe gathering valuable data on the chassis and equipment that will be used in the 2013 season. Valencia, Hockenhiem, Imola and Jerez were the circuits chosen to host the 12 hour test sessions.

With Torrent Motorsports being a brand new team to the Superleague grid and having limited finances the decision was taken for all three drivers to do limited laps to keep the costs down. Race drivers Petter Kaasa, Jim Parisis and test driver Simon Melhuish only completed around 40 timed laps each per test which were normally done in one run.

When Torrent Motorsports arrived in Australia for the first race of the season it was clear that it would be a tough weekend. The chassis named TMo-01b was the second worst developed on the grid with a mere seven upgrade steps compared to the front running teams from 2012 having 20 or more upgrade steps. In the qualifying session Petter and Jim set identical times with times of 1:25.544 and 1:25.573 placing them surprisingly for the team in eigth and ninth.

Jim Parisis said "Our low fuel pace was unknown as that was the first time we had ran low fuel in the car. Managing to have both cars in the top ten is quite shocking as we were expecting to be around 12th."

At the start of the race both drivers made good starts and were running close together in seventh and eight. By lap ten the pace of the car showed, Petter and Jim were still close together but had fallen behind the cars in front. After both cars had completed both their scheduled pit stops they were running sixth and seventh but over a minute off the leader and eventual race winner Carr-Smith. In the closing stages of the race van der Voort of Nijo suffered an engine failure which allowed both cars to move up to fifth and sixth.

Petter Kaasa said "Great result for us considering the car we have right now. Melbourne is a street circuit so produced unexpected results so we will take it for now."
