2002 World Champion, Mikko Jakonen, has won the first Grand Prix of the 2003 season @ Melbourne in Australia.

The finn drove a stunning race to take the win just 5 seconds ahead of the pole sitter, Joe Consiglio, who was unable to hang onto his qualifying advantage.

Petri Loukasmaki made it a double podium for Mapes-VO with a fine 3rd place, 29 seconds behind his team mate.
