DL Racing are rumoured to be on the verge of merging with another F1 team.

The rumours started circulating after Dan Lawrence was publicly seen chopping one of his race cars up with a meat cleaver after another failure during testing. He then spent several days in a hotel room in 'apparent talks' with a major investor.. All of this has led to the speculation we are hearing today as well as news from a reliable source that the team are set to merge with another team for the 2001 season.

DL Racing have had a fair season so far but consistent reliability problems have forced the team to seriously compromise their competitiveness for more reliable components. It is thought that the Peugeot engine is strong and has boosted the team since it was introduced in October but other aspects of the car have often held the team back.

Bowen suffered another setback in testing this week.

The gearbox has been a big problem along with the revolutionary steering systems which have plagued a number of other teams this season. A new front and rear suspension unit for the car seemed to help the team climb the grid slightly aswell as a more committed driver pairing. A merger would make little sense from a continuity point of view but the enhanced workforce and management crew plus resources that would undoubtbly come with it would boost the teams chances in 2001 and beyond.

More details will be posted as they arise.
