Grand Prix returnee Kieran Ryan managed to place his Simsoa 9th on the grid, and less than a second shy of pole!

'' This weekend has been hard. We had some problems with the car early on, some under and over steer which we did manage to fix. We went into qualifying with mixed hopes. I didn't really know how competitive I would be, but when I bagged a 1m 17.938 lap I was delighted! It was my hope that that was possible and a top ten made it all more interesting.''

A small gap separates a lot of the grid so does the race seem just as hard as his qualifying?

''Yes (he laughs). It will be harder because there are some really fast people behind me and in front of me, so the tyres, the car, myself and the team will be under a lot of pressure throughout the race, but I expect it will a fun race. I think points are quite realistic, but how many points? Well, that's another question.''

Signing some autographs, he departed the media centre.
