Xan F1 Racing secured a Telefonica sponsorship deal in their attempts to obtain one of the 2 free spaces available in next seasons championship. The deal is rumoured to be worth between £6.5 and £7 Million.

Gijs Herpers - Team Manager - commented "Xan F1 Racing are very happy to announce that we have signed a deal with Telefonica. We hope that we can build up our team to one of the biggest in the GPVWC. We know this could takes a lot of time and we have a lot to catch up because we are new to this championship.

We hope that we can make it into the competition in 2001. For that we are talking to what we think is one of the best drivers in the world. We hope that he will sign because that would improve our chances to compete."

A spokesperson for Telefonica commented "Xan F1 Racing are a new team, but we feel that as we can help them rise to the top of the sport. We are also keen to capitalise on the exposure that will undoubtably come with competing in such a great competition."
