TBA Racing held their car launch at the legendary Silverstone racing circuit amidst a blaze of publicity.

TBA are well known for their lavish parties and after race antics but today they outdid even themselves. Team Manager Chaz Charlton explained the huge effort shown by all the members of the team in preparation for the upcoming season and stated that morale was at an all time high and expectations, although 2001 was deemed a consolidation year, were equally boyant.

“We have an excellent package this year; one which should see us in good stead for the future. I believe I have made the right choices in sponsors and equipment and believe both Jonas and Stephen are the drivers ideally placed to prove what a force TBA are going to be in the upcoming seasons. We are receiving fantastic support from the AMT people and have already made several improvements to the engine characteristics already.

“With the prudent choices I have made this season we have a wealth of money to inject in whichever area we see fit, which can only stand us in good stead for the future.

As always I wish all the other teams in the GPVWC the best of luck and just hope they will have as much fun as we are bound to have this year regardless of the results – as you know TBA are just like every other team with regard to wanting to do as best as is possible but above all we want to have a good time doing it!”

Charlton then asked the drivers to comment on the up coming challenge for the 2001 titles. Jonas Lindberg had this to say:

"I’m happy that I have been given the chance to drive the whole season for TBA, Chaz’s bad luck at Suzuka last year became my good luck to get the chance to get into the team as a full driver rather than just testing.

“I have learned some valuable things in the few races I got to race last season and I’m very focused on this season and will be prepared to do my best in all races.

“I’m very confident in the new car and hope that AMT continue to do their best with the engines.

“Finally I wish my new team-mate Stephen the best of luck - hope you do good mate !”

Stephen Wilson, the new signing for the team this year once again spoke at his joy at having chosen TBA over the number of other teams after his skills.

“Let me say again how pleased I am to be driving for TBA Racing. It feels great to be able to drive for such a good team where everybody is 100% committed to racing. This is my first year in the championship and I don’t really know what to expect. All I can say at the minute is that I am really looking forward to driving the car.

“My ambitions for the year ahead are mainly just to score as many points as possible, how many that will be I don’t know, I should be able to give a better prediction after Melbourne.

“I wish all the drivers the best of luck for 2001 and I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on the grid in Australia.”

After the press conference, both drivers took the new car for a spin around the circuit and proved that the new AMT engine does seem to be a very powerful unit, this combined with the Sauber chassis and the two competent, reliable drivers should see the TBA team making real progress this year and lets face it, after the dire run of bad luck they encountered last year the team is due for some better results.

The after-show party lived up to all expectations and especially as the alcohol was provided free by the new sponsors, Warsteiner, saving TBA a huge chunk of their budget! The entertainment was provided by none other than TBA’s own Chaz Charlton and Team RaceBase’s manager Dave Harland who have put together a band dubiously titled ‘Lick My Love Pump’. The band has already gathered a large following of female fans (much to Stephen Wilson’s delight) who have stated they will be travelling to all the race meetings in the coming season which will no doubt add even more colour to the now infamous after race parties thrown by both TBA and RaceBase.

The evening was soured however after certain members of the GPVWC management insisted on holding a ‘down in one’ contest’ which dissolved into a huge free-for-all fist fight after Chris Connolly accused Richard Dixon of cheating by pouring his drinks into a pair of incontinence trousers.

Quite how much alcohol was consumed at the party is still under investigation after the local heath authority launched a health warning after over 46 people (mainly TBA, RaceBase and GPVWC staff) were rushed into hospital with what one disgruntled doctor described as ‘blood poisoning of their alcohol streams’.

It is rumoured that the Silverstone hospitality suite will just be about re-built for the race in July but have yet to decide who will be footing the bill for the needed repairs. Looks like the 2001 season has got off to a flying start!
