Ian McMah - DL Racing released the following statement to the media today.
"Having recently signed for DL Racing, I was very pleased to have been able to qualify second for my first event with the team at Suzuka. During the morning warmup we suffered massive systems failure with our data acquisition system, spiking the electrical systems on both my race and spare T cars.
With Suzuka's challenging layout, we had modified our engine mapping on the eve of the race on the main race car only. Anxious to ensure that our setup was retained, I ordered my race engineer to ensure this ECU was dismantled and repaired and refitted with the remainer of the replacement electrical system.
What I did not realise however, until we were on the grid and my engineer was conducting a final data upload to my car, was that we had not replaced the ECU seal, infringing the rules and mandating our DNS. Therefore I did not achieve a result at this important stage of the season for DL Racing. As I instructed my engineer alone to conduct these repairs, I accept full responsibility and publicly apologise to our team for loosing a potential podium result."
Dan Lawrence - Team Owner/Manager commented: "Needless to say I was very disappointed with the result of Ian's race after such a strong performance in qualifying. We would have scored highly - possibly 3rd-4th place - but it is academic now. We will bounce back at the next race!
In complete contrast I am thrilled with Scott Smith's result, he drove an excellent race. He was helped by attrition, but nevertheless scored some good points which it is all about."
