The 2010 Superleague and Supercup Season, our second in rFactor, proved to be a striking success and an improvement on debut season 2009. The level and number of drivers, the committment of teams, the support on the website - every single factor was a massive improvement from last year on which to build on for next season; but the most important result of the last twelve months, in the Administration's opinion, is the cementing of a solid and friendly community, which grew to incorporate both old-timers, dating back to the GPVWC of 2002, and new recruits who only recently joined. The result is a community which could easily claim the title of tightest-knit in the world of simracing - a massive achievement in an environment where, ultimately, we compete to outrace each other.

The 2011 merger between GPVWC and GPO presented some new challenges for us, on many different levels. Not only two different racing systems, admin groups and schedules had to be combined into one; not only we would face an influx of new teams and drivers. The biggest challenge, as some of the most loyal, time-consumed GPVWC members noted, would be to preserve the history and tradition of the GPVWC and the wonderful community we have.

Negotiations between GPVWC and GPO, regarding the basic blocks such as racing times, admin roles and series structures, showed a situation that risked endangering these hard-fought-for treasures our league built in its 11-year history. The GPVWC Administration perceived the risk the new establishment would bring to a situation in which the GPVWC community would end up broken up and unable to continue racing together as it used to, and where the spirit and vision according to which the league has been built would be lost.

In order to avoid the break-up of what we consider an amazing group of people, the GPVWC Administration, in the interest of the organisation and its community, unanimously agreed to pull out of the merger and continue organising the 2011 GPVWC Season as originally planned before the talks of a merger began, following the ideals and vision the league has upheld since its formation.

This is not due to ill-wishing by the GPO administration, whose members are committed and enthusiastic people who hold the improvement of sim-racing in the highest consideration. It simply appeared the vision and the direction in which both group of admins wanted to steer the joint league would be completely different and unable to co-exist. The moving to the main competition to a Saturday night, the almost doubling of entry fees and other measures proposed would have resulted in most of our cherished drivers in the GPVWC having to leave the league, and the admins compromising on the ideals that brought the GPVWC to be what it is today.

The relationship with the GPO admins and community remains excellent, and it is not excluded that co-operation between the admin groups could continue on some levels. But the GPVWC will remain, for the 2011 season and the forseeable future, an entity on its own, committed to bringing you, our community, the best sim-racing and team management experience ever.
