There were smiles all around in the CSG Racing garage following Round 5 of the 2012 Supercup championship as Alex Cooper scored the team's maiden victory in the category and the team's first in GPVWC since Round 4 of the 2010 Superleague in Abu Dhabi.

Cooper, who before today's race had amassed 26 points thanks to two third place finishes in China and Hungary, took his first win in the GPVWC in what has been a relatively short career; with the Brit combining his Supercup duties with roles at partner team Midnight Motorsport, competing for the team in the World Sports Series alongside his role as reserve driver for the Superleague squad.

Naturally, Team Owner Dave Carr-Smith was delighted with the result, and suggested that there is even more to come from Cooper as the season progresses.

"Obviously we're very happy, both for Alex and the team as a whole. It's been a difficult start to the season, on the part of both of our drivers, with a number of unfortunate incidents taking us out of contention on more than one occasion. Today's victory is a great morale booster for the whole team and I'm sure that this result will only motivate Alex even more as the season progresses. It's a timely victory for Alex, he's had great pace at all of the races so far but circumstances haven't fallen our way just yet. Things went our way a little today with Torrent Motorsports enduring a bit of a tough one by their standards, but that doesn't take anything away from what Alex achieved, it's a great result."

Unfortunately for the team it was not the double points score that looked to be on offer at the beginning of the race, with Cooper's team mate Ric Scott running inside the top ten in the early stages of the race. A small mistake costing Scott his front wing and any chance of points as he was forced to make an unscheduled stop. Once again however, Carr-Smith indicated that there were positives to take from the race.

"Today was a good day for Ric, he's struggled to adapt to the car in recent events but he felt a lot more comfortable today and I think that showed in his pace throughout the race. It's unfortunate that we had a small incident otherwise I feel that we could have had both cars comfortably in the points, but alas, it's great to see that Ric is beginning to feel at ease and hopefully this is a sign of things to come as we try and close the gap to some of the teams ahead of us in the championship standings."
