The end of the GPVWC season is just nine weeks away and while Lukas Euler seems to have all but won the race on the track, a race of a different kind is just heating up, appropriately termed ?silly season?.

Last year, most of the teams had their drivers lined up for when contracts could officially be offered in January and this year appears to be no different. The summer, well, what you could call a ?summer? in these parts, has yet to set and already drivers up and down the grid are battling to sort out who which colours they will dress up in for the coming season.

To this end, my ears are pricked as I walk through paddock, waiting to hear the little titbits? that the teams and drivers don?t want you to hear (or in some cases, what they do want you to hear.)

So what are the latest rumblings in the paddock, you ask? Well, read on to find out just a few of the latest rumors making the rounds as the teams prepare for the German Grand Prix.

It wouldn?t be right to start off this column without mentioning Dave Carr-Smith. The two-time race winner this season has been linked with every team in the GPVWC paddock. Some have been as bold to say that Manchester United has even lodged an interest in the Englishman as they look to replace the banjaxed Wayne Rooney!

It looks increasingly unlikely that Carr-Smith will remain with Green Stripes Racing. The fledgling outfit has enjoyed an outstanding year thanks to the performance of Carr-Smith. But without his talents, Green Stripes are up shits creek without a paddle. Expect team owner Christoph Lichtenstein to throw a kitchen sink or two as he tries to persuade Carr-Smith to stick with the German team.

Suitors up and down the paddock are said to have enquired about Carr-Smith?s availability, offering him his choice of cockpits for 2013. No other driver, perhaps other than Lukas Euler should he ever decide to leave Midnight Motorsports, has the options that Carr-Smith has in front of him right now. As it stands, he is the key to the driver market. Don?t let that one go to your head now, Dave.

Once GPVWC?s version of The Bachelor does make his decision, so begins the furious scrap amongst the teams he left footing rather expensive wining and dining bills for those left available. No doubt there will be some awkward moments as teams try to convince drivers they are who they really wanted all along. Personally, I see that going like trying to convince a girl in a nightclub for your attention after you strike out with her best friend.

Tired of hearing about Dave Carr-Smith? Well, before I go I?ll give you one more morsel for you to chew on.

Ryan Walker is looking to return to the Superleague. Shocker, I know. The man who changes seats more times than thoseattendingthe Mad Hatter?s Tea Party is quietly makinginquireswith regards to 2013.

The Scot, who last year started the season at Draig Racing but later moved over to Triple-Double Racing; announced late last year that he was moving to Nijo Racing before surprisingly returning to ground zero at Draig; began the season with the Welsh team before dropping down to Supercup with first Halcycon, then No Fear and then back to Halcyon again; meanwhile signing with Constant Racing as a test driver for Superleague before promptly announcing shortly after to the media he was quietly inquiring for a race seat.

Got all that? I?ll give you a moment to digest that as I catch my breath. Its times like this I really should invest in an inhaler.

Yes, Ryan Walker is back on the market, at least until he changes his mind about it. Despite his ability to nail the cliché of a ?hot seat?, a number of teams are rumoured to be considering him. Kernow Sport are said to be watching Walker?s performances in the Supercup closely as they eye up a potential replacement for Simon Cattell. Kernow?s leading point?s scorer is said to be weighing up his options on whether to participate next year, leaving a potential vacant seat in the league?s other new team for this season. A team-up with GPVWC?s mister reliable, Mark Wicks, might just be the tonic needed to settle Walker down and compete at the same level for longer than it takes to write this article.

Kernow are not the only thing looking at Walker. Mark Fuller is also eyeing up Walker for ST Racing. Having been plagued with driver issues throughout the season, particularly with the loss of team superstar Tom Eley, change is on the cards for Superleague?s rear brigade team. With the consistency they have had at times with driver line-ups, Walker is said to be seen as a trade up in a season that has seen Fuller share seat time with Scott Bennett and Geoff Meade. An opportunity to race in a low pressure setting with either team just might be the right opportunity for Walker as he seeks to find his feng shui racing environment.

That?s all for this edition. It most certainly won?t be the last and I?m sure it won?t take long for me to scribble down some more notes on the gossip amongst GPVWC?s elite as the end of the season draws ever near. Until next time!
