MCR are the 1st of two GPVWC teams to launch their 2002 cars today. The Canadian team made it a brief affair, releasing shots of their 2002 car while outlining their aims for the 2002 Grand Prix season.

The team are one of the few left who haven't signed a driver but are confident of making at least 1 signing before the 1st Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Background: MCR has a lengthy history in racing, but this is the first foray into Formula 1 for the Canadian-based team. In the past, the team has run successfully in CART and NASCAR.

This year, manager James Menzies decided to bring the program to the next level and compete in F1. He is a veteran driver, and is still contemplating getting behind the wheel of one of the two cars. However, due to the time commitment necessary as manager, he may seek out two young guns to pilot the Mercedes/Shell/Michelin combo sponsored by Lucky Strike, MCI and Korean Air. Talks are underway with a number of skilled drivers, and Menzies expects to have two drivers lined up by the season-opener.

James Menzies - Manager: "I am very excited about the upcoming season. The GPVWC competition brings together the best racers in the world. We have put together a competitive package while maintaining a secure bank balance. While we are still finalizing our driver lineup, I am confident we will be near the top this season. I'm expecting to start the year with both drivers in the top 10. After that, I expect considerable improvement and hope for a top 5 constructors position. Mercedes gave us a good engine, now it's up to us to perform."

Daniele Manzo - Commercial Manager: We have some excellent sponsors on board, especially Lucky Strike, MCI and Korean Air. We look forward to adding more short-term sponsors throughout the year and delivering great value to our existing sponsors.

Jacques James - Chief Designer: In the design department, we've put in a lot of long hours lately. I'm pleased to say I think it will be worth all the hard work when we hit the track in Australia.

Todd Kravitz - Chief Engineer: Being the only Mercedes-powered team in F1 this year, our department will be busy familiarizing ourselves with the engine and making sure we get the most out of it.

Rene Craven - Chief Mechanic: It's been a hectic build-up and a lot of stress will be lifted off our shoulders in Australia. Hopefully anyways, as I may have a heart attack if the car doesn't live up to expectations. Menzies sure works us hard around here!
