Rumours that Sparshot Racing was to be bought by driver Dan Lawrence were confirmed today, when a press conference was held to announce one of the worst kept secrets in the sport to date!

Sparshot Racing will be renamed DL Racing after the Hungarian Grand Prix after which Dan Lawrence will retire from driving to take the team owner/manager role in the team.

The team may race at Australia with only one driver. This decision will depend on how quickly a new driver can be found to replace Dan Lawrence.

Dan commented:

"This takeover is the best thing that could have happened to the Sparshot team. Without the deal the team would have gone bankrupt very quickly. We were unable to keep the Sparshot name on the cars due to legal difficulties with former owner Nick Douglas. So we are rebranding the team DL Racing - (Dan Lawrence Racing)".

"I will retire from driving after the Hungarian GP to take the Team Manager role so that I can have a larger influence on the way the team is run. I will continue to privately test for the team and may return to the cockpit in a few years."

Driver Scott Smith commented:

"I think it will give the team a new energy to start fresh with."

The DL Racing website is due to open on Sunday 17th of September - more details will be posted soon.
