The Southern Cross United Motorsport team travel to Austria with some trepidation but will be attempting to rebound after their worst ever race weekend in Spain.

This morning the S.C.U.M. team held a press conference in a tent erected next to the helipad at the A1-Ring circuit to show off Southern Cross's latest venture, the Windmill helicopter. An impressive piece of machinery, it carried the team's 30 strong management team plus had the team's transporter strapped to the bottom.

The normally quiet Chief Designer. Colin Green, was the first to speak; "The car we used in Spain was basically an IndyCar chassis with the bits that the FIA wanted bolted on and a Renault engine shoehorned in. It wasn't the greatest thing to look at but in both windtunnel testing and on on our track in Kikatinalong it consistantly out-performed the Barney Mobile so we used it in Spain. I take full responsibity for Dan's problems in Spain as where I decided to mount the rev-limiter for qualifying caused it to overheat and come on too early. When I moved it for the race, I apparently crimped a wire and after a while the wire broke entirely. On the upside, we now know that the engine will rev to 26000 rpm before it disintegrates!"

Harding spoke next; "The car we tested in England this week was the first generation of the Reynard-Windmill chassis and if everything goes to plan we'll be running the second generation here in Austria. We managed to tweak a few more horses out of the Renault this week, plus have a brand new electronics package. Finally, thanks to Dan's effort in tyre testing this season, Michelin have offered us a brand new exclusive compound."

Dan Regan then took the stage showing off the brand new racing suits and helmets he and Harding will be wearing. "This is gonna be a tough weekend for us of all the tracks we tested at last year, this was by far our worst. On top of that, the Toyota engines we were using last year produced a lot more horsies than the Renaults that came with the Mommark team we took over. This being said, our new chassis is already far superior than the Barney Car and the new compound that Michelin is giving us sticks real well. Our objective this year is now to keep our position as the premier Australian team in the GPVWC so that we can pick up the prime advertising dollars from home."

At this race's post conference party the music which had always been Flip Janssen and Jaap Schokker playing Purple Haze at previous races was replaced by the legendary Eric Clapton playing blues classics... obviously to reflect the beautiful new blue cars we caught a glimpse of as they unloaded them. Unfortunately, our cameras were taken off us as we entered the tent so we can't print one here.

In rumours floating around, it's said that S.C.U.M's Michael Vink is currently negotiating a deal where ex-S.C.U.M. driver Willy Ponissi will be using our chassis in his new E.I.R.E. cars.
