Not a happy man. This is all you could say of Dan Lawrence after his team's appalling performance at the British GP qualifiers.

"After all of the hype surrounding our team in the buildup to the British Grand Prix qualifying session we have disappointed ourselves and our fans.

A variety of problems have plagued us since we first turned a wheel in practice.

Firstly Glenn Bowen suffered an very rare gearbox failure on his installation lap. He managed to get back to the pits on tick over throttle before blowing his engine later in the session. Scott Smith suffered a variety of similar problems. After setting a respectable pace early in the practice sessions he was caught unawares by hare running across the circuit (very common at Silverstone), this resulted in a shattered front wing and the need for a bit of a cleanup for the nose section of the car.

Then came qualifying. Scott was the first driver to join the circuit and set provisional pole position with a 1m23.268. It was to be his only run of the afternoon however as his car lost 2 gears on his in lap. He would have had the T Car if Glenn hadn't already got into it!

Glenns' race car refused to fire up, leaving the Peugeot engineers scratching their heads in confusion. He had to use the T car for qualifying. Worse luck came on his way back into the pits when he was called into the weighbridge...his car was found to be 3kg under weight due to a mistake by his race engineer who forgot to replace ballast which had been taken out earlier. The car was immediately impounded for further investigation.

Glenn was disqualified from the session, but after an appeal has been allowed to start with a 60 second penalty to be added to his total race time. He was very downcast about the whole situation but vowed to try and score at least 1 point during the race.

Scott ended the session in 11th place. Although this is lower than usual he (and the team) remain confident that he will score some good points on race day.

I would personally like to apologise to our great sponsors for such a tragic home showing from the DL Racing team, and assure all of our fans that we will bounce back in the race.

It is too late for us to be thinking about winning any races or gaining any pole positions in 2000. We are aiming for consistent top 8 finishes to give us enough points to overtake Britten in the constructors championship. Red Arrows who are only slightly ahead of us are going to be impossible to catch, they have a great great driver in Kris Pusaka and I am sure he will spoil the party for the championship challengers (as much as I hate to admit).

We will bounce back in 2001. Just wait and see".
