Teams and drivers
The following teams have confirmed their 2015 participation.
- 1 GPVWC-branded engines were used for round 1 only, as title sponsor VBMotorsport's engine division, Valiant, took over the role of engine supplier to all teams from round 2, in Bahrain, onwards.
- 2 Downforce iZone Racing will only run a single car in the 2015 season.
Team Changes
- Walk Racing, Enterprise GP and Smile Power Racing were all promoted to Supercup.
- Tanskanen Racing, Royal Blue Racing, JRT, Velocity Racing, THR and Knight Racing all chose not to reapply for 2015.
- Centurion Racing and Scuderia Basilea were both demoted from Supercup.
New Entries
- Karjala Racing, Epic Racing and Ice Cold Racing all returned to the series following a 1-year absence in 2014.
- Dogecoin Racing, Triple Twenty, Arrow International Racing, MadCape Racing Team and Deltec Racing Team are all rookies to the Career Ladder this season.
- Draig Racing returned to the Career Ladder following a 2-year absence with Fanatec as leading sponsor. This was the first time they had taken part in a GPVWC single-seater series following their dismissal from the 2012 Superleague season.
- Downforce iZone Racing will make their GPVWC debut, despite not having undergone the same application process as the other teams. They will, uniquely, only run a single car in the series. The team's entry was part of a special deal relating to Downforce's sponsorship, and broadcasting of the Open Series; successful Open Series drivers would be offered guest drives with the team.
2015 Calendar
Testing
The 2015 testing schedule is as follows:
Test | Date | Venue |
---|---|---|
Pre-Season Test | 17th February 2015 | Circuito de Jerez, Andalucia |
Calendar changes
- The Challenge Malaysian, Chinese and German Grands Prix were all removed from the calender
- The Challenge Turkish Grand Prix will make its return to the Formula Challenge calender after a 1-year absence.
- The Challenge Singapore Grand Prix will be run for the first time in 2015. Though the event was scheduled to make its début in the inaugural season of Formula Challenge in 2012, it was ultimately cancelled.
- Like Singapore, the Challenge Portuguese Grand Prix was also due to be run in 2012 but problems with the Circuito da Boavista led to the event being dropped. In 2015 the event will make its proper début, although the venue has changed to the Algarve International Circuit.
Rule changes
Technical
Sporting
- A new Team Numbers system was implemented into the Career Ladder for 2015. This meant that all teams across the Ladder held their own numbers instead of having them determined by finishing position of the following year.
