The 2016 Silverstone Masters was a round of the Masters Series held on the 3rd January 2016 at Silverstone. It was the third running of the Silverstone Masters and the first since 2012. It was the first round of the 2016 Masters Series season and ergo the first to be run using Audi TT Cup cars.
As 2016 marked GPVWC's wholesale migration to rFactor 2, the round was spiritually the first of the new era. That said, it was in fact a return to rFactor 2 for the Masters Series, which utilised the platform during the 2013 season. It was the first official GPVWC round to use the rFactor 2 platform since the end of the 2015 World GT Series season on 1st October the previous year.
The round was completely dominated by Eric Stranne and Ice Cold Racing. Stranne secured pole, won both races and secured the fastest lap in each. His team-mate Lewis McGlade finished both races on the podium: in the Feature race the Englishman was third; in the Spring he had improved to second.
The event was clouded over somewhat by crashes between drivers' cars, crashes on certain drivers' systems and doubts over the suitability of boost settings; the chilly temperatures of mid-winter England allowed cars to "unrealistically" utilise Press2Pass boosts for the entire race.
The grid was not full, either. Hinss Motorsport, TR Motorsports and SimTech Jota Sport fielded only one car each. Epic Racing Team's Geoffrey Fournier missed the Feature race while TR Motorsport's one competing car, driven by Maurice Brackhahn, was absent in the Sprint Cosmo Autosport's Matt Richards was beset by technical problems and was unable to fully participate. Former Masters series champion David Jundt floated about the sever but did not attempt to qualify.
