Teams and drivers
The following teams have confirmed their 2014 participation.
Team changes
- CSG Racing, Target Racing and Vod:Bul Racing were all promoted to the Superleague for the 2014 season.
- Innervision, despite a strong 2013 and only serving two years in the Supercup, chose not to re-apply for 2014.
- PP Dynamic Motorsport (who entered Supercup at the same time as Innervision) had, by contrast, an awful 2013 finishing second from bottom in the Teams' Championship. They too chose not to re-apply for 2014.
New entries
The number of team entries increased to 15 for the 2014 Supercup season with 7 spots available for new teams. Five of the new teams were directly promoted from Formula Challenge.
- Storm Racing Team entered Supercup with two years experience in Formula Challenge; strongly challenging in the 2013 Formula Challenge season Teams' Championship.
- Edonis Engineering were also promoted to the Supercup after a strong campaign in the 2013 Formula Challenge season which saw them take six wins and third in the Teams' Championship.
- Wauters Automotive, Measuric Racing and Positive SimRacing were all accepted on the foundations of good results in Formula Challenge as well as a fundamental ambition to do well in Supercup and beyond.
- SimCraft Racing was accepted as the reformed version of the Multi21 Racing Team which took part in the 2013 Formula Challenge season.
- TheSixthAxis Racing was accepted as the team had established itself well in other categories during the 2013 season; specifically World GT, the Masters Series and the International Touring Cup.
2014 Calendar
Testing
The 2014 testing schedule is as follows:
Test | Date | Venue |
---|---|---|
Preseason Test | 12th Feb 2014 | Istanbul Park, Istanbul |
Calendar changes
- The calender was shortened to 17 races - 1 less than the previous season.
- The Korean, Turkish and French Grands Prix were all removed from the calender
- The location of the German Grand Prix changed from the Nurburgring to the Hockenheimring; the first time the German round of the Supercup was to be held there since 2006.
- The location of the United States Grand Prix also changed. For the first time in Supercup history, the Circuit of the Americas would be used to host the event.
- The Bahrain and Chinese Grands Prix made their return to Supercup calender after a 2 and 1 year absence respectively.
Rule changes
Sporting
- 2014 will see one of the biggest changes to Supercup in the category's history; a move to two races per race evening. Race 1 will be run on a distance of about 175km, with Race 2 roughly 100km (in 2013, the single race was set at 195km). Race 2 will also feature a random reverse grid of the top six to ten drivers from Race 1.
- Another big change was that for the first time movement up into the Superleague would be automatic for the winning driver and team of the 2014 season.
